This is why I used OKCupid. They have you answer a bunch of questions, and you can see each others' answers before swiping. Between that and reading their bio, you can often get a sense of these qualities (or lack thereof).

It sounds like just being friends is hard on you emotionally. I would just be honest. Tell her that you're having a hard time just being friends and that you're struggling emotionally or mentally and you need to step away. It can be great to be friends with someone you used to date, but that really depends on the circumstances and the person. If it's not working for you, then you should cut it off. It's that simple.

We were just talking about this in my poly group. The consensus among the ladies was that it is absolutely a turn-on when a man asks for consent before kissing, putting his hands on you (I think the specific example was putting his hand on the small of her back), etc. It makes you feel safe, cared about/for, and respected. It's also something that almost no men do, so if you want to not seem like just another douchebag, it's an easy way to accomplish that. An associated thing we talked about was…

When I was in my mid-20s, most of the men I was involved with were 10-15 years older. What attracted me was a guy who had his life more together than your average 25-year-old. Had his own place instead of living with family or a hundred roommates, had a career going, etc. Aside from that, just the usual stuff - good sense of humor, interests/hobbies, not an asshole, similar political views, etc. Basically, the same stuff you would do to attract any woman of any age.

You're not out of the attractive age bracket. I took a few years off from dating to focus on my career and my own wellbeing (my last relationship ended with an argument that resulted in me needing multiple surgeries to fix the physical damage, so you could imagine my emotional state was pretty bad). I was 29 then, and just recently started dating again, at 35. I expected little to no interest, now that my age starts with a "3." I was very wrong, and now that I'm in a better place in life (degree…

You seriously dodged a bullet there. Can you imagine being married to someone with that mindset? Forever? Find someone who is interested in a partner, not a caretaker.

Yes, exactly this.

I've never told a guy he was sexy, honestly. It seems objectifying, and I have mixed feelings when men call me that, so I don't generally say it to other people. I would say handsome just means a good-looking guy. Pretty eyes, nice smile? Maybe nice shoulders?

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
