Depending on what the state laws say a prenuptial agreement can contract away spousal support/alimony as long as the agreement is not unconscionable. 1	Common law marriages I'm not sure what your getting at. Common Law marriage can only be contracted now in about nine states, but due to the Full Faith and Credit Act, and CLM contracted in the original state will be recognized in all subsequent states. I'm saying that due to rather odd particularities of setting up a CLM, whether or not you actually established one can be a rather interesting question for a court. Both fall Libel is very hard to prove and litigate. The actual civil action requires the paper to print something they KNOW to be false with intent and malice. Both fall Well self-defense is a defense against criminal prosecution. This would likely be a tort action against the old couple for battery. 4	Common law marriages Common Law marriage is essentially a myth, and only really matters when one party dies. The seven year rule is BS inside the U.S, you can't just become Married without your consent, and most states don't allow the creation of "common law marriage" But in the states that recognize common law marriage, you must Hold yourself out to be married, and that must be known to the community.
