I actually own that book, just haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. I’ll have to put that next on my reading list. Thank you!

Thank you, that makes sense. Is emotionally unavailability usually stemmed from poor childhood experiences? Or being hurt in past relationships?
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy17/07/20 05:30 PM

I have a question, why do you think emotional availability is a real thing? I’m almost convinced the majority of the time someone acts emotionally available, it’s just a case of them being not that into you. I feel like if a guy meets the right girl, he’ll suddenly be emotionally available or want to change for her. That’s why a part of me almost thinks a guy being “emotionally available” is a myth. I’m open to hearing your thoughts!

I am open to other opinion’s and advice, but you really didn’t have to be so condescending and rude about it. That was really unnecessary.

Can you emphasize this a bit more? So enjoy the good memories for what they are, but remember that they are now irrelevant?

Making a guy initiate 100% of the time is a bit intense, I feel like that could be conveyed as a lack of interest on my part. I honestly feel like a guy initiating 70-80% of the time is fair. That way, he’s still doing the chasing. If I literally never text him first, how’s he gonna know I even have any interest in him?

What if a guy does that but initiates 70-80% of texts with you?

This might just be me, but I thought I’d post here to see if anyone else could relate. When things end with a guy, does anyone else get especially triggered when reflecting on the time(s) you introduced him to your friends? I dated a guy briefly earlier this year and when I reflect back on it, the memory that hurts me the most/the one I miss the most is the time I introduced him to my friends. All of my friends liked him and we had a great ass time together that weekend. Even though we only date…

Right?! Outside of FDS, Reddit is NOT the place for women to be receiving any sort of dating/relationship advice.

I used to post all my shit in regular subs, before I discovered FDS. Wish I’d found it sooner—I once posted about a guy who ghosted me after date 2 even though he specifically said he would text me afterwards. Everyone said shit like “what’s the big deal? Just text him” and “you’ll never know what happened unless you text him, stop making a big deal out of it” “Regular subs” had me out here texting people who’d ghosted me. “Dating advice” my ass. 🤡🤡🤡

I understand, but keep in mind we live in a world now where new women are just a swipe away. People have more options now than ever before due to apps, so it may not be realistic for someone to want to drop all their other options immediately after just one date.

What about in the beginning stages when you can tell they’re dating others? (E.g. if they take a day or so to respond, probably because they’re texting someone else.) Where is the line drawn between “this is normal because it’s still early so it’s fine that they’re dating others” and “you’ll always be an option and never a priority?”

What is it that causes men to finally leave their forever girlfriend, in that case? From what I’ve heard, it’s usually when they meet their dream girl, but maybe I’m wrong there.

I know a couple just like this. Whenever I feel alone as hell (which has honestly been a lot lately due to the pandemic), I think to myself that being alone is much better than being in a long-term relationship with someone who already knows they’re gonna dump me the day they find their dream girl. 💀

Perfect, thank you! I’m asking because this is what happened to me. Was dating a guy whose actions didn’t match his words, but he didn’t really seem like the manipulative type at all, and it had me scratching my head a lot. I even brought him to meet friends at some point and all my friends liked him and thought he was sweet and genuine, even my friends’ roommates liked him! But when it came to actions, he could never really deliver. Maybe I’m just giving him too much credit, but damn, if he was…

I do have a question I wonder if anyone can answer though. Matthew says here “it’s not always true that words are a cover up for someone’s true intentions. We shouldn’t distrust every word as a potential lie. Sometimes people have the best intentions. But intention is not delivery.” What would make a guy who has good intentions still unable to deliver?

Damn, I really felt this one. With the last guy I dated, it seemed like his actions weren’t matching up with his words. Yet, I still didn’t think he was a “bad guy” for whatever reason—despite him not acting on what he said, I still, in my gut, felt that he was genuine when he spoke to me. It was really weird and I kept scratching my head over it. I’ve dated guys who were disingenuous before, and I could feel that with every bone in my body. A few years ago when I was on this crazy dating app spree and a super Pickmeisha, I had a few guys on dates say things to me like “if you play your cards right, you’ll get to meet my friends someday” “if you play your cards right, you’ll X,” blah blah. At the time, I thought nothing of it. Now I look back on that and I’m like excuse me, if I play MY cards right? What about how you play yours?! Tf.

The last guy I dated didn’t even have a mattress. It was literally a thin mattress pad type thing on the floor. He had a few blankets thrown on there, one of which was, I shit you not, a fucking sleeping bag. He was almost 30. How the fuck is that comfortable?!

It’s weird how continuously settling for less deludes you into thinking that you’re not enough, you deserve shitty situationships, and that you’ll never find “real,” healthy love. I used to think that before FDS, honestly. I would look at friends who had healthy, loving relationships and think of myself as unlovable and only deserving of the worst of situationships and FWBs. But after discovering FDS, I realize that I am 100% deserving of “real,” healthy love—I just have to stop settling for les…

This makes me wonder if I also grew up to be a Pickme because of the experiences in my youth. In middle school, my friends all had boyfriends (!!!) and I was the only single one. I also had an ugly duckling phase (I don’t think I was ever “ugly” but I had braces, acne, frizzy hair, the works), so my self-esteem was pretty awful throughout high school. I’m attractive now (💁🏻‍♀️), but this makes me wonder if my Pickme-ism actually began in my youth and I just carried it with me into adulthood.

Is it possible that “believing this is the best you can get” is a subconscious thought? Whenever I get involved with an LVM, I think to myself that I probably could do better, but I tend to stay anyways. Or maybe it’s because I let my emotions override logic, not sure which it is.

Lmao as of this year I’ve created a new rule where I won’t add a guy I’m dating on social media unless we get into an actual, official relationship. Prevents shit like this from happening, and also keeps me from lurking and trying to see what he’s up to, if he’s dating others or if he ghosts. That, or you can just delete him. Social media kills and leads to unhealthy obsession — “Omg he’s watching all my stories what does it mean,” Who are these two girls he just followed” etc. etc.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy12/06/20 07:12 AM

I agree, the men are dating apps are atrocious lol. You could try focusing more on your passions, hobbies, and interests, as I mentioned? Something to pre-occupy your mind will do wonders. If not, blocking and deleting him might help. It also really helps to remember that there’s nothing wrong with you. If you’ve gotten into that mentality at all, you’ll be screwed.
/r/FemaleDatingStrategy12/06/20 06:45 AM
21

This might not be bullet-proof but I’ve found that the best way to approach dating is to remember that you have to lean back and let the guy pursue you. If he doesn’t pursue you, pay him no mind. Only pay attention to the ones that pay a good amount of attention to you. Keep that mentality in mind in the early dating stages. Let him initiate at least 70% of texts, while you initiate around 30% (some people will even say 80/20). This way, you know he’s actually interested and not just passively r…

I am jealous of all the women who don’t need this sub or wouldn’t be able to relate this sub because they know how to find healthy, loving relationships. You’re right, ending up here is usually a result of being burned. Sometimes the posts here are so cynical it makes me not believe in love anymore, honestly. Why is it so hard to get into the “abundance mentality” when dating? Currently, I’m trying to get over a guy who probably isn’t right for me by going on apps and swiping/messaging others, but I really don’t want to. I’m forcing myself because I know if I do end up clicking with someone, it will really help a lot. But honestly, I’m not in the mood to talk to anyone else. When I was in high school my best friend at the time (we were both 16), was dating a 21 year old. Her parents were not okay with it at first but eventually they accepted it/accepted him (!!!). I thought it was a bit strange, but didn’t think that much of it. Now that I’m actually in my 20s, I’m like holy shit. That’s so gross. I can’t imagine being 21, probably in my senior year of college, and wanting to date a fucking junior in high school. Like, what??? Anyways, I’m not friends with that girl…

Yeah but if you’re at the point in a relationship when you’re destroying each other’s valuables, that doesn’t sound like a healthy, loving relationship to me. Couples should be able to resolve conflict in a healthy manner, doesn’t matter that it’s “just a transaction that can be replaced in less than 2 months.” Destroying property just seems... abusive. We need to do better than this.

Same. How old are you now, if I may ask? I’m in my late 20s and I also wish the same for myself. Like how have I spent so much of my life being a Pickme? No wonder the guys I dated always left early on. Oh well, I suppose it’s better we learn now than never. Some girls will never discover FDS/FDS-style dating and be Pickmes indefinitely. I think we lucked out. I’m forever grateful that I found this sub because the way I acted with men before was honestly embarrassing. Self-respect? I don’t know …

One of my old co-workers admitted she got wine-drunk and cried to her then-boyfriend at the time about "why he wouldn't propose to her." They ended up getting married, I saw her Instagram photos and he was crying when he saw her walk down the aisle. I don't know much about their relationship, but that seems like a genuine gesture of love. Do you have any thoughts about that? I know crying for a proposal is a low-value woman thing to do, but maybe he came around? I don't get it.

For me, it was a couple things, and even then, I'm still learning to love myself more and more every single day. Also, what worked for me might not work for you, so your mileage may vary. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Spend an extensive amount of time here. I think joining FDS really helped to re-wire my brain. It took about 6 months of coming here frequently to finally wake up and love myself after years of very poor self-esteem. That’s what I’m saying though—even though old Pickme ways are dying out and more women are waking up, now there’s different ways to be Pickmes... women will pursue men under the guise of being “strong, confident women who know what they want.” It be like that sometimes. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I feel like Pickme logic is here to stay in other ways though. :/ Nowadays, there are women asking men out, chasing men, even PROPOSING to them under the guise of being a “strong, empowered woman.” Letting a guy court you is now seen as “old-fashioned,” even though it’s literally evolutionary biology. I know, because I’ve been there. About a year and a half ago, I pursued a guy—kissed him first and everything. I thought I was being this strong, empowered feminist who wasn’t afraid to approach me…

So true, women literally have all the power. Look to the animal kingdom, the females always call the shots within other species. It's only in humans that women don't seem to know just how much power they have. We carry the babies--we call the shots. Amongst humans, women are conditioned to be Pickmes and be at a man's mercy. Revolving your whole life around the guy, ditching your friends to see him, giving up your hobbies to be able to spend more time with him, etc. -Needing the relationship too much. While quarantined and bored, I joined a Facebook group geared towards dating advice for women, and the Pickmeisha-ness in there physically pains my soul. Matched with a guy on an app yesterday and he asked what I thought about having a first date during the pandemic. He said he would have “no judgement” in regards to my answer, and phrased it as if he was genuinely curious what my thoughts were about meeting up during the pandemic. I told him I probably wouldn’t meet up, and he immediately unmatched me. Is this really what people are doing during this time?? Dating/hooking up with literal strangers? Like, you really can’t keep it in your pants fo…

This is the mindset I need to have when I get "sad" about a guy who isn't treating me the way I want to be treated. Why would I stay and settle for someone who doesn't cherish me, when I could go out and replace them with someone who actually does? Seems like common sense, but for the majority of my life, it has not been. It absolutely baffles me how clouded my judgement gets once my feelings/emotions get involved. It should be a given that I walk away in situations that aren't serving me, but f…

It truly baffles me that in a world built for men, there are still so many men that want to play victim and act like they're the gender that "has it harder." I see that attitude a lot on Reddit. Lots of insecure men who truly think women live life on easy mode and men are the ones who have it harder. Imagine being that delusional.

This might be an unpopular opinion here, but I personally like Elliot Scott. He does have some good advice. Some examples: -The more resources a guy invests in you (time, energy, money, effort, etc.) the more likely it is that he actually likes you and won’t ghost. (This might seem like common sense here on FDS, but a lot of Pickmes seem to think that the more resources THEY invest, the more the guy will like them). -The less dependent you are on “the outcome” (AKA how much are you hoping it wil…

I felt this way up until literally 8 months ago, so I’m guessing a lot of women probably think this way. Thank god I found this sub. I honestly used to think that if a guy rejected me/dumped me, it meant I wasn’t good enough in some way, and I would spend so much time overanalyzing what I “did wrong” or all the things that were probably wrong with me. What dating coach is that? And I wonder why it’s so rare for a woman to be able to walk away if a man isn’t behaving the way he should. Does this mean women are naturally predisposed to being Pickmes? Why are we like this—is it because women are more likely to be forgiving? I feel like it should be common sense for us to walk away when we aren’t being treated the way we want to be treated, yet, for so many women, it’s not.

That's super sad. I have a friend who I think currently has a "placeholder gf" based off of your description, and the craziest part is that I think he's a good guy too (otherwise we wouldn't be friends lol). Got it, that makes sense. And I meant men generally don't see women with low standards as their "dream girl". What I wonder is how the Pickmeisha ended up in the relationship in the first place? Is the man just like "this one's alright, I'll make her my girlfriend, I guess". It seems sad that someone would choose someone to be their significant other that way. It is about having your own life outside of him, not letting him walk all over you, and putting your self-respect before your desire for a man. It's about showing him that you're not afraid to leave if it comes down to that--a concept foreign to Pickmeishas. None of this has to …

When you say he could be lying to me or just telling me what I want to hear, what are their motivations for this? I know one is obviously sex, but are there others? Holy shit, the FDS mindset fucking works. The guy I'm seeing told me that one of the reasons he likes me is because "I seem to want him, but I don't need him". This is exactly the woman I've been trying to embody since discovering FDS, and it seems like I've been successful at leveling up! My old Pickmeisha self would have been the opposite and made it very apparent that I needed him. He's a sociable, good-looking guy too, so I'm sure he's dated his fair share of Pickmeishas who wanted to automa…

This is now my first qualification when I start dating a man. It's no longer "how funny is he" "how good is our banter" "how good is the conversation," etc. The most important question I ask myself now is "is he capable of treating me like the Queen that I am?" (Then, I follow up with the other questions because obviously, those are important too.) But it's weird to think that I never asked myself this before FDS. I was always just evaluating their personality with no regard for how they were tr…

If you know they're dating others, I find that you have to keep reminding yourself that you're the best candidate "in the running". As a woman of FDS, you should know your worth, and that in itself already makes you stand out. A woman who fully knows her worth is fucking powerful. (It should be the standard that all women know their worth, but unfortunately, it's not). It's likely some of other girls he's talking to are Pickmeishas. Stand out by knowing your value, and take no shit. When you kno…

Can a couple still be a HVM + HVW if they were boyfriend/girlfriend for 10 years before getting engaged? A woman at my work is the senior director of her department and I found out (from her directly) that she dated her now-fiancé for 10 years before they finally got engaged. This was a recent engagement, so they aren't married yet. Both of them are very career-orientated and extremely committed to their careers, to the point that they were in a long-distance relationship for a bit because she'd…

The point is to be busy and rejects invites for dates sometimes, not 100% of the time. You still need to see them in person in order for things to actually progress anywhere, but FDS teaches you to not say “yes” every single time, like many women are accustomed to doing—particularly when they start to really like a guy. Show him you have a life outside of him/dating and that sometimes you prefer to prioritize other obligations. You don’t put him first, especially if it’s the early dating stages …

I think one thing that kills me is when they treat you really well in the beginning but then treat you poorly and act distant to try to get you to go away when they lose interest (had that happened to me last year). I yearn for how they were in the beginning, so that's why I still like them even when I'm being treated poorly--I want things to revert back to how they were at the beginning.

How many dates do y'all think it typically takes for guys who just wanted sex to filter themselves out? AKA if you don't have sex with him by date number X and all he wanted was sex to begin with, he'll probably disappear? I know it will be different for every guy and I should be looking more at how much effort they've put in over time to determine whether or not they're just trying to hook up, but it'd be nice to still have a general timeline.

This is also me right now, ugh. Why do I still have such a Pickmeisha mindset, I thought FDS had set me straight. So good to know I'm not alone though. The nice thing though is that I'm not questioning my value this time or wondering "what I did wrong". His inconsistency is his problem, not mine.

Thank you, I appreciate your insight. Based on the info I've given, what do you think his deal is? The inconsistency also didn’t start until Monday morning, he was pretty consistent up until then. Hi ladies, can we talk about how to tell if a guy you're just starting to date is interested in you for just sex, or more? This is assuming that you haven't had sex with them yet. Hmm. That's a really, really good point. They probably don’t want to chase women because they already have bad luck with women to begin with. So THAT’S why they want a woman to pursue them. More attractive males/HVM who actually like doing the pursuing probably aren’t on Reddit answering threads about this concept. So they weren’t lying, they’re just ugly. 🤔

Can you emphasize what you mean when you say women aren’t “supposed to win” and instead be men’s adoring audience?

How did you come to this conclusion? Did you see a therapist at all, or is this something you realized on your own? My thoughts exactly! I think it’s insane that people outside the sub think we’re femcels, lol. We’re just women who are trying to set some strong boundaries and not take shit from men, not sure why it’s so difficult for people to see through to that.
