I (M/42) hired a female attorney to represent me. Best decision I ever made! Especially since my ex decided to go "pro se". Unfortunately I married a lawyer with a malignant personality disorder. Fortunately, she was very confident that she would do as well in family law as she did in her main law specialty. She did not. My lessons from my first (and only) marriage are: Don't get married in the first place. There is no need to enter into a legal contract. Why? Think about it, isn't it crazy to e…

Hey, I remember you u/oli_21_. You posted that pretzel bun cheeseburger and fries a while ago (that you made for your son at your new place) Don't let the judgy moms (assuming she's married and a mom) at your friends' BBQ who knew you when you were married to your ex get to you. I found that dancing around the issue and being private to save face is not the best course of action in an "inquiring minds want to know" situation. When you take the high road and withhold information from interested p…

Well, ballpark it was 100K total in legal bills. I'd say the legal bills (at $300 / hr) were the bulk of the cost of the divorce. I lucked out and had a great female lawyer. My lawyer saw my financial situation and always tried to get summary judgements without trial. The crazy BPD ex was always aiming to go to trial on every small issue. I lucked out and had a great male judge in my case who was pretty tired of the crazy ex's antics and gave summary judgements on a lot of matters without spendi…

I had both the audible version and the paperback versions of these books going through a divorce from my BPD ex-wife who is a lawyer and represented herself in family court. https://www.amazon.com/Splitting-Protecting-Borderline-Narcissistic-Personality/dp/1608820254 https://www.amazon.com/Stop-Walking-Eggshells-Workbook-Personality/dp/1572242760 We also had a very contentious custody battle. The books helped. Divorce financing from my parents helped. Had to pay it all back after though.

Not me. I was fucked over during a lengthy 5 year divorce and custody battle by a mentally ill (BPD and bipolar) lawyer ex-wife and mother to my kids. I didn't even know mgtow existed prior to that nightmare ordeal. I found out about mgtow joined because I needed a support group while going through a shitty divorce. Because of my experience with systemic gender-discrimination (against the father or male in a divorce) in family court. That's life, you don't know what's what until you have a night…

I've never cared about advancing politically within a corporation. i.e. getting "promoted" on the management track. I've always grown and winnowed my technical skill set. They (corporate America) will always need "technically skilled male peons" to do the work and solve their hard problems. It's rare to find a technically skilled female who chooses to stay on the technical track. They are out there though. I've always been on the technical track. Never wanted to switch to PM or management, no ma…

I agree that there are sometimes geographic situations that warrant the ownership and use of firearms. There are people living in rural areas (or inner cities) who are felonious in nature. Multiple generations of dysfunctional druggie lifetime criminals living on one property. Neighbors who are already armed and do not respect any boundaries. I’m talking about people who look you up and down to see how they could murder you, rape and murder your wife, take your property and set fire to your hous…

The longer you stay married to her, the worse your divorce will be. Rip off the band aid and start divorce proceedings ASAP.

It's good against mountain lion attacks if you're hiking by yourself. Other than that, I'm real nice to everyone in public so there's no real need for carrying a gun since I don't engage in altercations and walk away. Not every problem person (crazy or having a bad day) needs a lesson (to get shot or killed). The only reason to really use a gun would be if you or your loved ones are attacked. That happens very rarely and normally it's easier to just detach, de-escalate and walk away. The other t…

Nope, nope, nope. Just nope. Tried "co-parenting" from 2015 to 2019. Started out with the ex (the kids mom) lying to the judge (projecting) and claiming I had mental health issues, alcohol abuse issues and that I was a "flight risk". I was put on a monitored visitation schedule by the court. Went from that to 2-2-3 custody schedule. We'd exchange at the Police Station. She and her mom would take out their digital cameras and harass me and my parents when doing the exchange. I'd get wall-of-text …

Yup, my sentiment exactly. Try too hard and you're not spending enough time with her. You care about your career more. Try too little, limit work and you're a loser and low value male because you're not bringing in enough money. She starts to put you down. She starts comparing your provider status and earning potential in relation to other males. It's best to not even engage in this BS. Don't get married, don't have kids. You'll be much happier and live longer. You can work as much or as little …

This is why men age faster and die younger than women. Divorce also causes major health issues for the parties involved. I've talked with divorce lawyers who told me that they've seen quite a large number of male clients develop cancer from the stress of the divorce. Heck, many passed away before the divorce could be finalized. Better to have a "fuck all" attitude. "Drop out", take it easy and chill. When you're in a divorce process you have very little control so why stress?

Figure out a “safe” low-risk way to have and raise your kids. Surrogates is a way.

Sure. Just don’t get married or get her pregnant. Also be ready to walk away if she’s giving you a marriage ultimatum. It boils down to compartmentalizing your relationship, being strong, stoic, unattached and ready to walk away at a moments’ notice. Also level set with her and tell her that long term, you’re not looking to get married and you’re happy keeping things the same. Being honest with her and not giving her false expectations… I feel that’s key. This way it won’t blow up in your face w…

Wow, sorry you went through that. I had my ex-wife (the lawyer) call the police after she attacked me. Before the police arrived, my witch cunt of a MIL (her mother) arrived on the scene and told me what to say to the police. That nothing happened. So the police arrived, took each us aside out of earshot of each other. (ex and myself) They then got a statement from the cunt witch MIL. Ex proceeded to tell them that I had supposedly attacked her. MIL backed up ex's story even though she was not a…

This is why I make it a policy to choose a girlfriend much lower down on the education and economic scale than me. I've got a master's degree and make 6 figures working a great job. The girlfriend, she's an immigrant, hasn't gotten her equivalency in nursing and never will since she won't be able to pass the Pharmacology part of the NCLEX. Which is fine by me. I help the girlfriend out financially (sparingly) I've told her marriage is never happening. Basically if she gives me a marriage or brea…

I would say this is more racist than sexist. I’ve seen charges brought against a black mother who left her her kids alone in order to go to work. https://www.fox5ny.com/news/mom-arrested-for-leaving-children-alone-to-go-to-work It’s a type of systemic racism against black people that goes on in America.

Yes, I know my younger self would have benefitted from the lessons learned on the r/MGTOW2 subreddit. It’s a great way to understand the legal realities around getting married (don’t) and having kids (don’t)

I wouldn’t say that. They have their own biological imperatives and drives. Different from the biological imperatives in drives of men.

The framework of family laws (in the West) try to codify the place of the male in relationship to a woman and any children that are born to that woman. These laws are written from a Disney fairytale family perspective. They are not written from a human evolutionary perspective. The Disney fairytale: the man pair bonds for life with one woman if the man married a woman and the marriage is less than 10 years, the man must provide for the woman for the duration of the marriage subsequent to separat…

Get yourself fired and look for a lower paying job. Career change. Say that you hate what you've been doing and you want to do something else. Start new job working odd hours or nights. Struggle. Start making cutbacks financially. You don't need to orchestrate poverty. It's easily achievable in real life.

I actually tried doing that... Being the alpha got the police called to my house on several occasions. Heck, got arrested for domestic violence once (but never prosecuted) because she thought it would be fun to lie to the cops about the fight she instigated and escalated. When you're in a jail cell (barefoot, in a t-shirt and jeans) and she files a restraining order on false pretense, you get to rethinking why the fuck you tried being the alpha. Being the alpha doesn't work. It'll escalate and w…

Yes, the one who got away. I think about her every now and then. It’s not my ex, it’s one of the women I dated after my divorce. When she stopped seeing me I did drunk call her one night and she apologize for ghosting me. I then told her that I would not contact her again. I haven’t and I won’t.

Holy mackerel! I'm really surprised since they've been together for that long. After the 25 year mark marrieds just give up and put up with each other's bullshit. Basically they become complacent and know they won't get a better deal with someone else. No other partner will know their ticks and idiosyncrasies and death is nearing so most marrieds just say "Fuck it!" They've been on the ride for this long, might as well keep going for 5-15 years until death. Also FWIW, Prof. G Scott Galloway says…

Meh, there’s a lot of artifacts of human evolution and social anthropology at play. A lot of evolutionary programming that we’re not even aware of or have much control over. Societal norms and our culture is obviously biased toward women. I’m not angry about that. It’s not really worth thinking it over. Waste of time to do so. Still as a man, there is a way to beat the game and not get baby trapped and become a slave to a woman. Find a job that women simply cannot do or won’t do. There are union…

Will, this is a support group made up of men that are helping other men. What you are looking for should be very common and easy to find in the United States. There are millions of men out there who have gone through bitter, wrought divorces and have had family courts decide to take their assets, earnings, property and children. Plenty of men who ran out of money during bitter divorces and whose kids were given to unfit mothers. You just need to look at public divorce records. There is no need t…

That sounds like something my ex would do. WWMED: What Would My Ex Do? I’d document, give the info to my lawyer and let her pursue. That’s clear parental alienation.

File for divorce first in your state. This way she won't be able to attend proceedings and you'll pretty much get what you ask for. If she files first in her state then you're screwed. She can make up a lot of issues to litigate and get judgements against you since you won't be able to attend in person. She's crazy and out for revenge. I'd get a proper lawyer since she's crazy and will make an issue out of everything. Also be prepared to shell out a lot of money over the divorce and put off home…

Well that's a doozy... Legally you're on the hook for spousal and child support. Ain't marriage grand? I ask this in the legal (not moral) sense. See if you can get her to forgo spousal and child support and if she'll let you pay her off so you'll keep whatever assets you worked so hard for during the marriage. She'll probably want you to bankroll her, the baby and the bio dad for as long as the law requires. Other than that, the only advice I can give you is: Do NOT get married in the future. I…

Get healthy, eat right, hit the gym. Save up for family court. According to the 5 stages of loss and grief, the steps are denial, anger, depression, bargaining, and acceptance. Time heals. You're somewhere between denial and bargaining. With time, you'll reach acceptance. Personally, after bad break-ups, I reached acceptance by going on tinder and hooking up with a lot of women. Superficial but effective for me. The meaningless and abundant no-strings-attached sex allowed me to detach and reach …

This was a situation beyond your control. Do not beat yourself up over it. It takes two to stay married. She chose her path, didn't seek help, no matter how much you insisted that she do so. Go to therapy, talk over your feelings, the marriage, the arguments, the whole history. You'll be able to process what happened by talking through all the issues with a therapist. You may also be able to come to some new conclusions about what happened during the marriage, to perhaps see more was at play tha…

Listen to the book "Splitting" Find a lawyer who specializes in fighting a Narcissistic or Borderline Personality Disorder ex-spouse. Your run of the mill family law attorney will not know how to handle an NPD STBX (Narcissistic Personality Disorder Soon To Be Ex). You need a professional who specializes in high-conflict divorces. Do not go cheap on representation. Make sure you interview a pool of lawyers before choosing one and putting down a hefty retainer. Ask about prior high-conflict cases…
