I’ve probably told this story here before, but I paid on the first date with my husband and I know it was a huge green flag for him. I had showed up to a regular hang out of mine early for our date and I had dinner before he got there. We had a drink or two together to get to know each other - his were beers and mine were mixed drinks. The bill was like 75% my stuff and he offered but I had my own money and insisted that I could treat him to two beers. We are now married and I don’t work anymore…

At every juncture if it is not a F YES, it’s a no. You were both very young when you had a kid together. Why try to rekindle something you already know doesn’t work? Flip side if you are just looking at this pragmatically: get back with him, ignore all the reasons you aren’t together now, have another baby.

I have a credit card where I charge everything normal- including gas, groceries, hair, anything I order on Amazon, etc. I also get an allowance of sorts. I get cash transferred into my personal account each month that I can spend on anything I want. Spa days, dinner out with girlfriends. That kind of thing. DH pays all bills. I have no clue about our finances unless I ask.

I absolutely understand that. You should find a career (not childcare) that’s a fallback. If you do love caregiving, nursing is great. You will always have options with even a 2 year nursing degree. Probably anything healthcare related is going to fully forgive an employment gap. They are desperate and are only on track to get more desperate.

We have 2 dogs, so to start the day I feed and walk them. I either then take them to the park or I go to yoga - never both. I shower and get dressed for the day after. Twice a week I clean the house from top to bottom. (Every other week we have a cleaner come in to do a deep clean as well). Once a week I water/feed the plants indoors and out. I have a garden going seasonally. I am currently also rearing monarch caterpillars. I go to the grocery store pretty much everyday after I decide what we a…

There are a few things to consider: Being a SAHW is a lot of work. I’m not sure how clear you are on that fact at 19. There are days (like today) that I get up at 8:30am and - other than driving - I don’t sit down until after dinner is served. Then I get right back up to clean dishes and the kitchen. It’s not all fun and games. It’s mentally exhausting as well. Add kids to that and you might honestly end up hating it. Point is: You don’t know yet. You haven’t done it. You are correct that it’s h…

Here are a few that are my go-tos: Turkey sausage dogs with sautéed peppers and onions. Chili and skillet corn bread (NYT recipe for the cornbread). Turkey sausage and tortellini with a creamy pesto sauce. Grilled chicken over a bagged caesar salad. Charcuterie. (This would be particularly easy if you’re headed to Whole Foods) Reverse sear steaks with roasted Brussels sprouts. (Can also do reverse sear pork chops.) Spaghetti and meat sauce with sautéed broccoli.

My hobbies come and go with the seasons sometimes. I’m currently raising monarch caterpillars on the back porch. My husband loves watching me get excited about new things.

Domestic goddess? I honestly struggle with this because I came to a traditional set up way later in life. I spend my time doing yoga, at the dog park, running errands, cooking, cleaning, gardening… it all sounds like nothing but added together it’s a full day and people (especially my generation - Gen X) do not value any of that. We were raised to believe only money mattered and a woman should do all that and bring home a big salary.

Your spouse will ideally be there after the kids are grown and flown. I thoroughly disagree with putting your SO second to the kids and taking the kids everywhere (never having a date night). That’s a recipe for a cheating husband.

Bonobos are highly promiscuous and use sex as bonding. They practice something referred to as a “genital handshake” when they meet new tribes. They are definitely not monogamous. I have no idea what point OP was trying to make there.

Take a trip over to r/stepparents and do a bit of reading. Being a stepmom is hard under the very best of circumstances. You already know, though, that this isn’t the best of circumstances. You have what is referred to on the other sub as a high conflict baby mama (HCBM). It’s possible/likely that she will do everything in her power to make this relationship difficult for you. Is your boyfriend officially divorced? You said separated, which sounds like a “no” to me. If he’s still married on pape…

Don’t Starve Together. Our family plays a lot of coop games. We’ve played Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime. Overcooked and Overcooked 2 are both fun. Unravel Two is super cute. I will tell you that my husband games and he doesn’t really love gaming as a team. The only game he actually enjoys playing as a group is Diablo 3, but I don’t think that’s the type of thing you’re looking for.

Most men, if asked, wouldn’t say they care about having their bed made. They like it. Make the bed everyday, if you can. Definitely agree on chores up front. My husband and I both worked FT when we moved in together. We had the fastest chore talk ever. 😂 He said: I don’t mind mowing the lawn and doing dishes, but I hate cleaning toilets. I said: I know you also hate laundry and I have no problem with laundry and cooking, but I also don’t want to clean toilets. He said: Ok. Sounds like we are hir…

Are you looking to get married and/or have children? If so, he is likely not the man for you. I would have said the same thing to you 5 years ago and without knowledge of the girlfriend. This man will never ever make you his wife. If that’s ok with you, go ahead and leach off his income for as long as he will allow. He already bought cheap some of the best years of your life. Let him keep paying I guess.

I would do both things: Seek medical help and also move forward with your education. Is there nothing social that you have found to do while your husband is working? Garden club? Yoga? Golf? Tennis? Dog park? I am a full time homemaker and I’m not bored.

Not to that extent. I find when I implement STFU too much I end up having to remind my DH that I am also a person who has feelings. It’s not that he’s a horrible narcissist or anything. He just legit forgets to consider how his actions (or lack thereof) might have repercussions that effect my mental wellbeing. If it goes on too long he will start speaking to me the way he speaks to his employees and I’ll have to gently remind him that (despite the fact that he provides financially) I don’t work …

Our situation is the same. Most of our money is either joint or in individual retirement accounts. I don’t bother with any of that money though. I have a CC on an account he pays. I also get a set amount of cash to spend as I please. I have individual bank and CC accounts from before we met, but they are peanuts comparatively. It takes a ton of trust and unity to make this work. I agonized about leaving my career. It’s great now but I was afraid I might be opening myself up to financial abuse.

I was raised in a household where teasing and tearing down was pretty much our only interactions. Big family. Did your husband come from a big family? I didn’t know I was hurting people for years after I left home. I thought all people did this. I thought that’s how people bonded. Husband is probably clueless.

Nothing. No. DH works his butt off to earn money. What I do is pack his lunch, tend to his kids, take care of the dogs, keep the house clean, laundry done and put away, dishes clean and in the cabinets, dinner decided on, shopped for, prepped, and served, then I clean up and make his lunch for the next day before joining him in bed. At what point should I be trying to earn money?

I’m an Athleta fan. I specifically need to have deep pockets in my leggings. I wear them to work out but also on long walks and to take my dogs to the park. I need those pockets for keys, phone, AirPods case, poop bags, etc. Athleta makes soft strong leggings with deep side pockets.

I just want to let you know that I always said “I come from a long line of bad cooks” but I realized at some point that cooking is really easy! It’s nothing more than following instructions. I now have about ten meals and probably as many desserts or appetizers that my husband, kids, and step kids love and demand. Not gonna lie: I am so sick of these 10 meals. I live in an old city (by US standards). My husband cringes when I put on heels. Limited parking + cobblestone roads are not a place for heels. I wear ballet flats to make him happy and make our outings comfortable for everyone. That’s for a night out. I spend the bulk of my time in flip flops or sneakers or barefoot. Not sure who needs to hear this, but working out can be feminine, gardening can be feminine, cooking/baking doesn’t require heels (though I do often wear a dress and apron for fun …

If you look back at prosperous couples historically, this was the way. Honestly, I would keep sleeping with my husband in the same (king minimum) bed, but I absolutely hate sharing a bathroom with him. Currently we are fine. I am American and was raised with very misandrist principles. “Men are pigs.” “Men only want one thing.” “Men will lie even when the truth is better.” I’m 44. Those lessons are true for like 80% of men. Honestly. But there is that 20% who aren’t terrible. Find the minority. Treat them well. They will pay you back tenfold.

Slow meditative sex that enjoys the moment rather than the destination. He will take his time to get inside me and then we will just stay there for a bit. He’s throbbing. I’m pulsing. No one is moving. Then you do what feels best. I had to have a full conversation excusing him from having an orgasm. If he is focused on his orgasm or my orgasm, it can’t work. He can get soft. Honestly, sex is better when neither partner is fixated on the end game. I’ve been w my husband for a decade. In the past year or less we’ve been exploring what probably amounts to tantric sex and it is mind blowing. Slow down. Feel what feels good. Soak in that feeling for as long as you can. I agree with a prior post: Don’t aim for spotless. I have 2 dogs and 5 kids. This place is never going to be spotless. I have housekeepers come every 2 weeks to clean all surfaces (showers, toilets, floors, sinks). I clean the floors myself 3 times between those visits on set days. What ultimately makes my house “clean” is that I do not tolerate clutter. Papers go on the desk. Then they get sorted, stacked, filed, or tossed. Dishes go in the sink. Then they get washed and put away. Dog leashes h…

Just throwing this out there, but are you “drowning” due to lack of structure in your days? Asking because your post is vague but I have intermittently struggled with that. My brother was adopted at 10 days old. That was roughly 11 months before I was born. Adoption was perfectly normal to me growing up. Bro was just the kid that didn’t look like the rest of us. My husband, bless him, doesn’t want to hear about any prior exploits. At the same time, he appreciates the skills I bring to the bed thanks to those supposed (we have pretend they are fake) exploits. Starfishing isn’t winning. Gain some skills. Watching porn is actually the worst way to be good at sex.

Unless this insistence is hampering your preferred lifestyle, I’d let it go and use your money to fund investments. Now, if you want spa day or a new car and he can’t foot the bill… I would be concerned that he will feel demeaned if you go ahead and pay for it. It might become restrictive.

I had sex with my now husband the actual day we met. If not for him I would never have been on a position to be an RPW. I didn’t want that for my life even a little. So I guess I’m your “reformed RPW”. Do I regret any of it? Absolutely not! Regret is wasted emotion. You can’t change the past. I love my husband. We ended up together. The only definitive diagnosis is exploratory laparoscopic surgery. If you have super heavy periods, try to get scanned for fibroids. My uterus was 10x the size it should have been when I finally got it taken out. The periods were nightmarish.

I dealt with a similar situation. The doc looked at my ultrasound after a failed insemination and said he thought I had endo. I knew women with terribly painful endo and said “I don’t have that”. I did/do. At this point I have had two kids and a hysterectomy. Hysterectomy doesn’t cure endometriosis though. I still have ovaries and a cervix and whatever organs it spread to before.

I’m 44. My husband is 42. He is so hot for me. I worry all the time about the aging process and put a ton of time, effort, blood, sweat, tears, and of course money into aging well. Honestly, at this point, a woman can age quite well into her 50s. That’s where it gets a bit dicey. Currently. It’s hard to say what will be your limit. Products continue to be developed. My surgeon husband’s first wife was a doctor of veterinary medicine. What I’ve learned from him, her, and the men and women physicians we have known throughout our relationship is the following: If you want to be a wife/mother, don’t go this route. You will end up outsourcing the mother role and often the wife roll will also come second to work. I always say, there are 3 rolls: wife, mother, professional. Pick two. He handles pretty much everything financially. My previous career was mortgage finance, so I have overseen all real estate purchases and refinances, from the start of the relationship. I also have access to everything.

Our kids are very aware that we have a sexual relationship. We make out in front of them. We make eyes in front of them. Our parents are still married and don’t seem to like each other. We are trying to be clear with our kids that married people should love and want each other. Our house is split where the master suite is on one side and all the kid rooms are on the other side. There’s a gate to keep the dogs from banging against our bedroom door. That gate is also the limit for children, barrin…

I love the idea of sex music. Definitely going to try to implement that. Our 5 kids are between 17 and 11 so there’s probably a lot more laundry and dishes but a lot less chasing them around and managing their days. My husband and I also end up staying up with the kids later in the evening to watch a movie together at the end of the day. Sometimes that leaves us too tired to be much in the mood.

My husband often states that woman are human beings but men are human doings. Women often complain about being objectified as sexual beings. Meanwhile, men are defined by their job/income.

I had a similar story told to me years ago. Have you seen any evidence he has a degree? Day trading is a gambling hobby, not a job. From all evidence, your man is broke. I’ll tell you what I told my friend with a similar story to yours: He’s probably not the one. You know too little about him to be invested as much as you are. Turned out that her boyfriend was lying about his degree and his investments. Be wary.

I was well into my 30s, raised by a misandrist, thinking I knew all about what was best for me as a strong, independent woman when I first saw this sub. I’m now 43, obnoxiously happily married, a stay at home wife who loves my husband beyond measure. There are really truly some solid lessons to be learned around here. Welcome. Read with an open mind.

Men look. My husband recently had to butt heads with a hiring manager to hire a girl the manager thought was “too pretty” and would distract the staff. Frankly, I’ve met her and yes she’s pretty but no one is too pretty to have a job! I advocated for her to be hired and work with my husband. If I were there and my husband was clearly drooling over another woman, I’d be pissed. If I were there and he cut eyes over and I turned and saw a woman with 87% of her tits on display (happened about 10 day…

I am absolutely sure that you bring 1000 other amazing things to the table, but this is a man and he is primarily a visual animal. Play to his strengths as best you can. I believe you can.

So funny because while I am thrilled to see him and happy to do most things he wants and I solve most of my problems myself and run his errands on top, he’s the one we joke about being a “good boy”. He is my devoted puppy. Same with the dogs though. Ours will do absolutely anything I ask because they know that I feed them and provide all the fun stuff and the butt scratches.

I can’t speak for how RP in general views your past, but I can tell you that your past doesn’t define you. You can change. You can heal. Just because you did a stupid thing once (or a hundred times) doesn’t mean you will never stop doing that stupid thing. Recognize what you want to change. Be mindful of your thoughts and feelings. I actually don’t believe in free will but I do believe that we all respond to the stimuli we are exposed to. You might respond to this post or you might have already …

Marriage to a man who is already successful and well connected is not about what you bring to the table in terms of financial success and business connections! It’s about what you bring to the table at home. He needs support from a wife that can see to the house, children, even his parents when he doesn’t have the time. He needs all of that taken off his mind so that he can focus on what he is already good at.

Sunscreen- I live in Florida and have two labradors. There are no days that I don’t expect to be in the sun. Back when I was working in an office all day I might have skipped SPF. Not anymore. Mostly this is face stuff. I sunscreen my hands. Alastin has a body product that I’ve recently started using on my arms. I’m considering IPL for my hands/forearms. Again, Florida and the sun. Being clear that you are dating to find a husband and not just to hook up is a very good idea. Discussing what kind of car, home, and pets you expect him to provide will send most sane and honest men running. You’ll be left with the liars who tell you what you want to hear.

You have been married 3 years and you have 3 kids? Also you both work full time? Honestly, that’s a lot! My husband and I really connect when he walks on the door from work. I stop what I’m doing to essentially make out with him. It’s not always kissing. Often it’s a hug, nuzzling, rubbing his head. We are both busy. To stop whatever I’m doing to acknowledge him and welcome him home is huge.

That’s amazing. It’s actually the reason I was willing to have a second child. My mother promised that she would quit work and be our nanny. That said, it comes with its own challenges. If the nanny isn’t living up to your expectations or is letting your kids run rogue, you can fire her. Not so much with your mom. My mother being in my martial home every day, leaving messes and spoiling our daughters, was a huge point of contention in what ended up being my first marriage.

I’m all about trying to stop assigning motive to a situation. Your instinct is to think “He is doing this because...” but usually the reason is not what you think. I’m actually very good at accepting my husband’s reactions. Even when they are contrary to what I want, I don’t get mad. He reacts a certain way to certain stimulus. I need to negotiate that. This would be a no go for any kid over 5, in my experience. The best thing I’ve found to help foster interests in new foods is to let the kid help make the food and (with limits) have a say in the ingredients. I was a picky eater until I started cooking. Ok. Does he have a day off? Because much as we want to take all these duties on ourselves, perhaps that’s not the best fit here. I do not work. But my husband deals with garbage, recycling, and dishes that need to be handwashed. You are in a forum where we tend towards traditional gender rolls. He should provide. I read your other comment. Dishes and laundry are huge. Is he going to get irritated if you run a load that isn’t technically full? If not, just get on a schedule unto yourself. Dishes get run every other day, laundry gets done once a week, all on one day if you can manage that (do you have a day off?). If you can wash, dry, fold, and put away the laundry once a week, that’s one less thing to even think about on all the other days.

I’m sorry. This sucks. The only real suggestion I have is to potentially seek out a woman’s clinic where they could test your hormone levels and see if something is amiss. I’m on the verge of perimenopause so I see a doctor to monitor my levels and I do get hormone supplements. You could simply be asexual, which is to say just naturally disinterested in sex. In that case, you have a couple of options. Keep doing what you are doing or share that information with your current mate.

I stay at home and my husband works. I look scrubby most of the day because I’m taking dogs to the park or working out or cleaning. However, I make sure to shower and dress nice before he gets home - not dressed up by any means, but a step up from yoga pants and sports bras with a tank top, which is what I wear during most of the day. I also make sure my makeup is done and my hair looks nice - again, nothing fancy but at least it’s not a scraggly pony tail.

Creed Virgin Island Water. It’s $$$ but every time I spray it on my husband practically humps my leg.

Learn to sew. It’s actually pretty easy to sew from a pattern. Just tedious. And I second switching from reading books to listening to them. That frees you up to accomplish more while learning. I’m amused and intrigued about the pig. I’ve seen you mention it before. Will this be an indoor pet? I have two Labrador retrievers and they take up a lot of my time, but I’m able to take them places and they compete in various sports. What do you intend to do with the pig?

I had a friend recommend it but she made it conditional on “answer a ton of questions and only consider others who also answered a ton of questions”. Seriously, take a few days answering the questions that range from sex to religion to politics to everything. Seriously. Answer 1000 questions and then start looking at matches.

I met my husband on OKCupid and it was a great experience. The app allows you to vet men for various attributes and narrow down what you are looking for.

I saw your post in another sub and didn’t respond but I will now: stop overthinking this and just do it.

You simply have to go to sleep earlier. I despise mornings. I very much prefer staying up late and sleeping in. Unfortunately that doesn’t work for my husband, who has to be up before 6, and it doesn’t work for my dogs, who want to be fed by 8. Regardless, I still need 8 hours of sleep to feel like a human being and to be able to be pleasant to the people around me. I actually shoot for more than 8 hours. Therefore, I force myself to go to bed around 9:30 in the hopes of being asleep by 10. I do…

What was the long term plan? I find I do much better with crappy situations if I know there’s an end game and I can look forward to/work toward that.

They all claim that their current marriage is on the rocks. Often they will say “we are sleeping in separate bedrooms” or “we haven’t had sex in years”. It’s almost always a lie. He has no intention of ever leaving the wife. If at all possible you need to go no contact.

I have a male friend. We get pedicures together and meet up for a driveway happy hour a couple times a week. He’s 72. I’m 42. Even that friendship (which developed because we are neighbors, he is retired and lives alone, and I walk my dogs past him often) got a fair bit of push back from my husband. He’s fine with it now, as husband has accepted that my friend is more like an adopted father. He comes to dinner at our house once a month or so. He helps with projects around the house and always co…

SAHW to a surgeon here. Second marriage. His first marriage was to another doctor. I was self-sufficient when we met. I had a full-time career in finance. I continued to work full-time the entire two years we dated and almost another two years after we got married. It became increasingly more obvious each year that someone should be spending more time tending to the home and needs of the children and I was the obvious choice. As this was not something either of us had envisioned, we both struggl…

My kids and step kids stopped asking this and started vigorously defending me to anyone who dared ask this once I had to upturn my whole life to handle virtual learning for 5 kids on top of all the cooking, cleaning, and animal care. Prior to that, they saw me on the weekends or on weeks that I pre-planned for, so that I wasn’t busting my butt the entire time and I could instead hang out with them.

I’ve met friends at the dog park, at dog competitions/training, at the community pool, in a gym class, reconnecting with high school friends from FB when they moved back into town, introduced by one friend to another person I clicked with due to a similar shared interest. You have to walk a fine line between being open to conversation but not annoying. For example, the people I’m not reconnecting with I would probably encounter a few times before I greet them upon seeing them and ask “how’s it g…

Statistics point to 28 being the earliest appropriate age to consider marriage. Anecdotally, I met my first husband at 19 and married at 22. We had 2 children. I divorced him at 31 because we had nothing in common at that point other than the kids. I met my second husband at 34 and we married at 36. Almost 5 years in and my daughters would tell you that they have no idea why I was ever even with their father and my current husband is perfect for me. To be clear, they like their father. We just s…

Wife of a doctor here. It’s a nightmare to get through Med school and training and try and have kids at the same time. You will be making next to nothing until you are near 30. (I get this info 2nd hand as we did not get together until he was 34) I’ve heard that dermatology is more friendly to women building families, but that’s a competitive field. What about becoming a vet? My husband’s ex is a vet and it seems to be a good career with a lot of family friendly dynamics. Lots of women in the fi…

I guess I’m on the other side of the fence from most of the ladies here. I had wanted a tummy tuck for a decade, since my youngest child was born. The stretch marks went up to my ribs and I had a ton of loose skin. Weight loss and muscle building was never going to correct it. My husband finally said yes. He suggested that I also get breast implants, since my boobs were deflated from years of breastfeeding. I was iffy about that but, after thinking it over for a year or so, I went ahead and book…
