If you're looking for a provider, be honest. Then you'll find a provider. If someone views that as a red flag, then they wouldn't be the person you want, so why pursue them? Asking what you do for a living is a pretty standard question when getting to know someone. It's not a trick.

Your preferences are only red flags for the guys you want to weed out anyway. Buy lying is definitely a red flag for any guy.

Just say that you are trying to get a business off the ground, and in the meantime, you were living off some investment income. It makes it sound like you are trying to make something happen, which guys will appreciate.

You should also make clear from the beginning that you were dating with intention. It will be useful if the business can be home-based, or run part time when you are a wife/mother.

Be careful saying you’re looking for a provider right away. You can say you would prefer to be a stay at home wife and mother and feel them out. But financial abuse is a thing. Some men are really good at faking being great until you can’t get away.

I think if you are working rn you should be honest but I always like to say when I have kids though I’d want that to change so I can spend time w them just do they’re aware of my personal goals. If you don’t want to work in general you can say how you’re looking to one day be able to stay at home and focus***whatever hobby you’d like to pursue*. I think being honest + setting expectations there’s no right answer.

I honestly struggle with this because I came to a traditional set up way later in life.

I spend my time doing yoga, at the dog park, running errands, cooking, cleaning, gardening… it all sounds like nothing but added together it’s a full day and people (especially my generation - Gen X) do not value any of that. We were raised to believe only money mattered and a woman should do all that and bring home a big salary.

Say that you’re living off of investments and running a small not yet profitable business. And when the conversation of values and future goals comes up, make it clear you’re a traditionalist and would prefer traditional gender roles in the future. I worked for 4/5 years of my marriage so far, but recently stopped because my husband and I always discussed that it was important to both of us for me to be at home for our children once we had them. Now that I am pregnant, it was time for me to stop working. I now support him in running his business and budget and keep him healthy and fed while I prepare the home for our child.

I wouldn’t say “I’m looking for a provider” lol. I would definitely just talk about what you actually do — work on a small business venture while living off a small investment income. The question of “looking for a provider” is more of a values/lifestyle question. And when you are vetting men for providing, asking them what they do for work is a good first step.

It's a straightforward, basic small talk conversation. No man is looking for a woman to "provide" though acknowledging and reciprocating in the relationship will make you unforgettable. Oh, don't lie or speak in a transactional matter unless you want a transactional relationship. Do you want to be a stay at home mom or have a provider? One is a useful asset , one is a leech.

You ladies need to become aware of what words you use, meaning, and perspective. If the first words out of your mouth imply wanting to be taking care for you are going to be interacted with on a transactional basis. Women have a massive blindspot with understanding they get strung along when guys sense a motive instead of desire.

I’d start volunteering somewhere like a school and say I’m a small business owner and that I work at an elementary school in my free time.
