Stealing a Doug Stanhope (I think) line, but it's great: "If marriage didn't exist, would you invent it?"

Jesus christ, the stupid in her is great. What was she expecting when she wrote all that? "Oh what a charming story of molesting your siblings! How edgy of you to admit to abusing a child!" And besides the horrible things she had already done to her sister, why publish that and put her sister in a horribly uncomfortable spotlight? "You know how I violated you when you were a kid? Well let me tell it to the world at large." Lena Dunham is a fucking monster.

When the news first hit, my reaction was "wait people take kotaku seriously?" I mean their site serves a useful function, I have no particular disregard for it, I just never particularly thought of it as serious journalism in the first place. It'd be like if someone was like "The National Enquirer does not have journalistic ethics!" Well, yeah? If people want to demand a higher standard I'm ok with that, but I guess I just can't get that fired up about entertainment reporting.

Lol, I guess I meant narrative function, but fair enough point.

They probably will... until they find they can make more money by expanding into niches. (Admittedly this will probably require a pretty big restructure -- you can't spend 60 million on a niche product). Remember how absurdly popular farmville got by appealing (exploiting?) 43 year old women? (I'm not making up that age/gender, that number comes from the creators research). I mean farmville was idiotic, but there are a lot of underserved demographics that can be served.

So, I'm not so much arguing for realism per se, more just internally consistent logic. So I'm ok with suspending disbelief and pretending glass or oak tree armor works if the fictional universe is consistent in how it presents it. I mean if the designer wants to put in a scantily clad female and say "see, she's dressed this way because it makes her nimble and agile and thus she can avoid her foes better", hey, that's not really realistic but at least there's a reason for the character being this…

I feel like I shouldn't feed the trolls here.. but I'm actually sort of baffled at what you're even apparently attempting to get at? Like apparently you seem to think you're making some point that is self evident to you, but as far as I can tell your only point is bad things should happen to bad people? Or something? Or you're just trolling?

I guess what I'm getting at is that if you're going to put armor (or anything) on a character, it should have a function. If you're going to have a universe where like, women are warriors or something, fine, but then make it make sense. A metal shirt that leaves your vitals exposed is not only impractically dumb, but it's not even really sexy. Like if you're making a sexy character just do that, but be honest about it. I mean in this imaginary context where I'm at war with an enemy, and some lad…

Well.. yeah? I'm not sure why "don't do horrible things to people" is a point I even have to make. If you have a point there I've missed it. I'm done with this line of conversation.

You're acting like this is some sort of crusade of mine. I wouldn't have even known about this dumb shit if it hadn't appeared on my frontpage, and I read a bunch of shit that made me think "wtf?". Look, my level of caring on this deal is like 1/10, but I also think it's important to have a code. What do you stand for, right? That's kind of important. And when I see people essentially say "It's ok that these people got fucked over, because they're privileged, and fuck the privileged, I mean does…

So, I don't think what feminism is doing to the game industry is really a good thing, but.. What's destroying the game industry is the fucking game industry itself. People seem to point out that as people get older, they get less interested in games. As a person that was a video game fanatic I can tell you why: I desperately want to play a game that's interesting to me, but being a person in my late 20s, I'm pretty bored of the tropes that appealed to me as like a 15 year old, and I need somethi…

Yeah, I can't help but agree. On the other hand, I get a lot out of this place. I mean I would have never found really good blogs like rational male without it. So I try to take everything with a very critical eye as to what the authors motive is, but the signal can be worth the noise.

To answer your question honestly: after today... I think it would bother me. On the other hand, we need a space for men to learn how to be proper men, and it's not just important for men... it's important for society, if that makes sense? I mean we live in this world where both men and women are demonized for acting naturally. I think when you read these threads, you see a lot of people partway through getting things together. They're mad, but, hopefully, they won't stay that way. There are prec…

Think of it this way -- lets say you accidentally get a letter intended for your neighbor in the mail. Nobody will ever know if you open it and read it, they'll just think it got lost, but you probably shouldn't do that right? I'm not saying people are horrible for looking at the pictures, and I realize curiosity is a hard thing to fight back and the cat is out of the bag (no pun intended, but heh), etc. etc., I guess I just wish decency was still a thing.

Why is not wanting strangers looking at your naked pictures such a horrible thing? These people intended those images for a private audience. And people are acting like this makes them horrible sluts? Are you listening to the words you are saying? Flip the genders and it still seems wrong to me. This isn't about entitling women, its like, as human beings we deserve privacy.
/r/TheRedPill01/09/14 06:51 PM

You're overthinking this. Some peoples privacy was invaded, and most people think that was a shitty thing to do to them. Some of those people have realized they can bandwagon off this event for their own cause, because more eyeballs (this includes both the feminists and redpillers). So I'm sure we'll see a lot of dumb articles on HuffPo, and also a lot of stupid posturing here. Women (and men) aren't pissed off because it lowers their SMV -- because I'm sure you recognize a couple hundred more p…

So it's not like I care either, JLaw is just another famous person to me. What I do care about is an act I think was shitty and immoral is getting upvoted here, and people are using it as a platform for some pretty weird rhetoric, and as a person that's gotten a lot of useful knowledge from this subreddit I think we shouldn't be about that bullshit and I don't think it's concern trolling to step into the situation and say "what the fuck is wrong with you people?"

When you send an email you also are taking the "fucking risk" of it being sent to others. Or if you make a phone call in confidence, maybe someone is recording it to mess with you later? But, sometimes you gotta send an email, or make a phone call, and I bet you have a few you wouldn't want made public. IMO if people want to take a few naked pictures, I wouldn't recommend it, but it's also nobodies business.

That's kind of a perverse viewpoint. Like you don't hate her for something she did, you just hate her for her status? It's not like she goes around eating babies. So she lucked into being famous by winning the genetic lottery and somehow making it to fame. But if the point of the red pill is to essentially take what you can get in life, how can you fault her for that? Would you act different in the same situation? She's lucky but she's not a monster. To me, if something wrong happens to a person…

So basically the rich and famous don't deserve the same rights as the rest of us, because, fuck them. Am I summarizing that about right? Look, I'm not losing sleep over this nor do I think this is the worst thing that ever happened, but, an injustice happened to a person and we shouldn't be so fucking callous that we pretend they deserved it because they're successful.
/r/TheRedPill01/09/14 05:33 PM

So this is a dumb article, but you shouldn't click on her pictures for your own dignity. There's plenty of women online that are equally hot that WANT you to see them naked, and then you don't have to feel bad about it.
/r/TheRedPill01/09/14 05:31 PM

I don't think she has to play the victim... she kind of is the victim. Just because she's famous, I don't see how it changes the moral calculus of fucking with someones privacy. It's just wrong.

I responded in the other thread, but: I find the premise here to be extremely absurd. Barring like a weird disfigurement or something I would imagine people who previously thought of Jennifer Lawrence as an attractive 22 year old woman, upon seeing said photos, would probably think, yep, still an attractive 22 year old woman. It's almost like you're inventing a fetish that doesn't exist. I can't think of anyone that thinks celebrity genitalia is somehow special, and that it loses its super power…
/r/TheRedPill01/09/14 05:21 PM

This reads like an obnoxious spam message where random things are bolded because they want you to notice that you could grow 4 inches thicker! For fucks sake, no sane male thinks that celebrity genitalia is somehow magical, and that by seeing it, it somehow loses it's value. Your theory makes no sense. (Bolded, since apparently that helps?)
/r/TheRedPill01/09/14 04:53 PM

That's entirely different. There's no such thing as the "cloud", it's just a metaphor. Second off, the facebook thing and the imgur things are bad analogies because the entire point of posting something to those sites is to share it, and they only really claim ownership to avoid lawsuits, for all intents and purposes it's still "yours".
/r/TheRedPill01/09/14 04:50 PM

I get the impression you have no idea of how this technology works. People have a right to expect privacy, even if it's imperfect. This is why we have things like encryption.
/r/TheRedPill01/09/14 04:45 PM
1

Seriously? So if someone were to post the entire contents of your gmail to the internet that would be ok, because it's in the "cloud" and those are googles servers, not yours? I mean it's on the internet right, on servers that aren't yours, so you shouldn't feel violated..

Yeah, I totally agree. To me the red pill is about seeing reality, not hating people, and this is a thing people have every right to be kind of pissed off about. Looking at a naked celebrities leaked photos isn't a crime, but if we're about honor and stuff like that here, maybe we shouldn't do it because doing that demeans US. Perhaps we should hold ourselves to a higher standard? I mean, yeah, celebrities have bodies like the rest of us, but I think it's out of line to mess with peoples privacy…

I'm not sure I buy into all these theories about it being related to SMV or whatever. I think society in general is legitimately outraged because someone stealing your data (in this case, photos) is a pretty shitty thing to do. I mean even if you're great looking naked, would you want people to post photos of you online? Of course not. I like to think I'm as red pill as anyone, but this is just a terrible thing that has happened to these women and I don't think people should be piling on them. I…

It might also be a case of the Peter principle in action. I worked with this one lady that architected a system that was a disaster, which 5 years later they're still dealing with the fallout. (They can't outright just drop it, but a lot of terrible, and frankly amateur design decisions means it wastes a lot of people's time) And she's now a project manager! I can confirm that also. I knew this one girl where she made about 20k more than an average salary to be a build engineer... which basically comprised fixing merges and prodding people about commit messages. It's the kind of thing you could find a competent intern for, and she was making WAY more than other more established and competent programmers for that. So, I work in tech. The mainstream narrative is that a bunch of neckbeards chase women off because they don't "respect" women as peers. And then the social just warriors arrive to tell people they have to be extra respectful, which really comes down to "walk on eggshells so she doesn't sue us." The reality is that, because of the incredible shortage of women in tech, they get treated like princesses even if their skills are mediocre, because every company wants to show they're diverse for social…

You got way too explainey with her. It happens to the best of us, for some reason we people feel the need to be understood, but, next time I'd just say you already have plans for the night and you're unavailable, looking forward to monday, and leave the "why" alone. If she starts to inquire, you could even have fun with it and play around, build some sexual tension, make up something silly (if you're good at the sort of humor... but I wouldn't stretch yourself). It would seem to me that the answer is that the average professional millennial women is... kind of a pain in the ass. I'm not saying this as like a woman hater or anything, there are a lot of great women out there, but the stereotypical "career woman" is generally extremely entitled, extremely unavailable due to time constraints, and generally thinks that things she's attracted to will also make her attractive (which is untrue -- I really don't care if a woman is wealthy or powerful -- these ar…

I believe that power dynamic to be amoral, not immoral. For some reason "amoral" is something many people seem either incapable or unwilling to understand. Maybe it just doesn't fit into a convenient narrative? Perhaps we all want heroes and villains, but part of being a mature adult is accepting that good intentions can go bad and bad intentions can go good, and while the ends don't always justify the means, everything should be judged based on its consequences. The red pill might occasionally …

Why not just make a new character? Leave out the gender politics, I just don't even get the upside of this. It weakens the brand of the character to (presumably) satisfy a group that doesn't really read comics anyway.

I'll preface this by saying I enjoy your critique. It's rare to get actual feedback on an idea rather than simply like/dislike, either of which are kinda useless. So I think we'd agree that sex comes first for guys, but that doesn't mean it's mutually exclusive that they don't also want emotional connection (aka: touchy feely shit). We want it all. So I think there's a flaw in your argument. Premise A1: Interactions between men and women come down to an exchange of "resources". Men want sex. Women want commitment. Each holds what the other wants. I'm not entirely convinced this is true. On average, there's probably more men that want sex and more women that want commitment, but watching my beta friends there's certainly a lot of dudes that want a chick as emotional support. For sure, they've taken the blue pill hard, but they wouldn't have…

Ugh, I love this subreddit, but design wise there's too much going on here. Too many colors. Too much unnecessary contrast. No coherent theme. The spacing is weird and inconsistent. It looks amateur. I know people are clamoring for the old design, but to be perfectly honest that one kind of sucked too. I'd either find a proper designer, or (preferably) just go with the basic reddit theme + flair? No need to go overboard on this, the content should speak for itself.

Yeah. I can't really say that was a shit test, it seemed like just a small innocuous comment. Pretending it was though, I think the best reaction is a non-reaction. Pretend you didn't even hear it. The witty comment sounds good in isolation, but I could also see it coming across as try-hard without the right delivery. Totally agree with this, although I'd point out that one the most maddening things that the media does is ignore that some people have real expertise that should be listened to. Neil Degrasse Tyson, for instance, has actual real science knowledge; you can't just put a schmuck up against him in a debate. (Even though this happens) They'll pit people who are actual authorities (IE, have studied in relevant fields) up against other "experts" who really don't know anything at all. By doing that, the…

Agreed, though it's probably a business decision (IE: if people can type in random things they can't sell it to advertisers with as much confidence. Someone is going to look at the report and ask "why are there so many 'decepticons'?") Never forget that facebook's business model is essentially selling you to advertisers. It's not that there won't be a market for it, what I mean is: essentially her market value is set from birth. Outside of taking care of herself, there is little they can do. As a dude, even if you aren't born with much SMV, you can do something about it.

Not to justify her behaviour (if you decide to become a porn star, you have to accept that there are tradeoffs and consequences), but I almost see the logic here.
