I'd argue though that the best version of myself for me is vastly different from the best version of myself to be attractive For example, going to the gym once a week to lift weights is enough volume to greatly improve your health. But to build a physique most people would find objectively attractive requires going to the gym more frequently. I'm interested, let's say one of your children has objectively not great fashion sense. Presumably, if they came to you and said "I want to get some new clothes to look better and feel more confident" you'd be onboard with them making that change? Does that change if they instead say "I want to get some new clothes because other kids say I dress badly"

Of course you are correct that complaining directly to people you're trying to attract isn't going to work. Nobody wants a relationship (platonic or romantic) with a person who's always negative and complaining. That said, I think a lot of men (myself included) have had rough dating experiences and venting about them either online or in person can be cathartic. So I once did what you suggest and lowered my standards all the way until I got a girlfriend.
