I used to wear band t-shirts all the time and I felt that it was the only appropriate reason for a man to approach me in public -- to say "hey I know that band, do you also like [other band]?" or something like that. Apparently this is very offensive to people and I have received a lot of backlash about this kind of thing. They never address the fact that when a man approaches me in public with nothing to talk about he's basically announcing, "Hey I saw you over there and weighed your attractive…

So that's where that weird facial expression comes from? I was always very grossed out by it but I thought it was just me and that that's how sex is supposed to look. Doesn't help that a lot of women have been criticized for their natural facial expression throughout life.

I disagree that that's why they respond that way. Their response is a tacit admission that they know that most domestic violence happens to women.

Sure, but it's kind of rare. If it were that easy for most people then this sub wouldn't be so popular and we wouldn't need a dating strategy. We would just up and leave and not think about it.

So many people over the past two years have been like "I didn't sign up for this!" You literally did?? I feel sorry for the kids who have had to hear about how much their parents hate being around them.

Why do people act like they are being oppressed by their own decision to have children? If I start doing drugs because I think it will bring joy into my life, does everyone have to have endless sympathy for how hard I have chosen to make my life? If I do something solely for my own fulfillment and it doesn't work out, to what extent do other people have to give up their energy (which may go to THEIR own fulfillment) in order to feel sorry for my completely voluntary decision? And at what point d…

No one is piling onto you? Most people here agreed with you. Don't worry, the world will always side with an adult over a child. You will always have the benefit of the doubt over your children, regardless of whether it is deserved. No one is coming for you, you already have the upper hand.

What power would that be? The only thing I can think of is if the kid were aware enough to call the cops/CPS and make a report that could get a parent in trouble. That's really the only way a child can hurt an adult. A child can't really hurt an adult's feelings, if an adult feels that their ego has been hurt by a child they need to go to therapy.

It IS her house though. Does she give her children equal freedoms in exchange for equal responsibilities? Why do people have children and then get surprised when the children have to live in their house? If you would rather have someone who pays rent then you could have gotten a tenant instead of a kid.

Do you feel like you are impressing other adults by flexing your power over powerless children? Does it make other parents think you're cool?

These are great questions which I honestly am too inexperienced to know the answer to but I'm getting a little disturbed by the replies... "Sexual incompatibility" and "He's a victim of misogyny"? Idk what is going on here, this sub has always had issues (especially re: victim blaming) but I'm surprised that these replies are so sympathetic to him, maybe we're being infiltrated or the sub is finally turning now that it has grown so much.

How many grown women do you know who do things to be "hip"? We do it because it's a requirement for having a boyfriend, straight up. Twenty years ago men were expecting things like this of me and if I didn't give in then I didn't deserve to be spoken to. Saying it's "the media" takes the blame off of men, who have always been depraved.

I was thinking the same thing -- it must be to impress other men because otherwise how do they all know the same lines? They must be looking at men's profiles because they know what other men are writing. I don't know what women say on their profiles because I don't look at them and don't discuss dating profile strategies with other women. Either they are browsing men's profiles or they get their lines from red pill dating strategy type groups.

Why can't they just, not bother their coworkers about personal issues? I mean they are literally asking about her uterus/vagina and sex life. Why do they need to entertain themselves at work, to the point that they ask intrusive questions because they have nothing to say but still need to talk for some reason? Honestly this mentality of living at work is on its way out with the boomers and so are these conversation topics. Do your job and go home, and you won't have to ask inappropriate personal…

Whenever I hear people say things like this I feel like they're letting me know that they had good childhoods. Do you really want the misogynist, racist, ableist bullies who came up with Zero Tolerance to have even more ability to get in your head and tell you who you are? A lot of people live emotionally, intellectually uncomfortable lives that skew the way they interact in social situations. If you want to talk about American culture, let's talk about the way that everyone is expected to be fun and funny all the time especially in order to obtain or keep employment. Maybe if they weren't expected to always be "on" and come up with interactions with people that they otherwise have nothing in common with then they wouldn't say as many things that you perceive as s…

Sorry I gotta disagree. This is moralist nonsense that is said by every generation about the previous, especially when they start to get old. I've never heard this type of commentary from someone who themselves didn't then proceed to do something stupid -- "everyone else is wrong but it's okay when I do it." This is a real Dunning-Kruger for me and maybe also some confirmation bias, it shows an inability to look at yourself. I mean, Everybody Loves Raymond was huge like 15 years ago, do you thin…

Ok I'm glad I'm not the only one who wants them to wash their hands before sex. I used to have to bring soap over to my ex's house so that I would be able to wash my hands but a part of me wanted to not bring it because I wanted to see how long it would take him to get some -- if I bring it to him then I will never know how long he intended to go without washing his hands, and it's not like I could ask when the last time he washed them was and get a real answer. He would pick up after the dog an…

I feel like so many of us, before we found FDS, would have been ok with dating a guy who only makes 30k a year because "it's not his fault he doesn't get paid more" and we are socialized to be forgiving, and we would do it in the hopes that he would make up for it by being kind and helpful in other ways. But they never do. They never see that goodwill and respond accordingly. I don't plan to have children and I still won't date a broke man, if I'm going to risk getting emotionally and sexually m…

Ugly women are considered disposable. The difference is whether you might also find a suitable partner while living with the violence. Some of us know that we could be kidnapped and murdered and there would not be a husband there to answer questions about us.

I acknowledge that... I guess I just find it very bothersome because once men find out that we CAN react that way, they demand that we DO react that way every single time regardless of our feelings or their performance. They say "I want to do whatever you want" but they mean "I want you to want exactly what I want and act like it was your idea."

Mine are definitely more like a sneeze. I also kind of don't appreciate this careless spreading of the idea that women will vocalize involuntarily during sex because it makes us seem like out-of-control simpletons who lose our mind over dick and it makes men fetishize women's calls of pain or distress (they fetishize everything anyway but we don't have to help them).

There are several reasons why murdered white women get more attention than murdered WOC, and you're absolutely right that this is one of them -- men love to see a little blonde girl get her comeuppance and they go home to jerk off about it. Every time I see that CNN is incessantly hammering on about this tragedy I just think of all the men who are enjoying it.

I don't agree with the 50/50 mindset but, what would you say to women who feel that going 50/50 is protecting them from owing sex? Fear doesn't make someone an edgelord, we can't exactly say "stop doing this thing that you feel is protecting you right now just because we asked," fear doesn't go away just because we tell them it's political

It's true, upper middle class women, who are also sometimes white women, are sheltered from the worst parts of men's nature. I don't know how it is that I ended up with a fear and wariness of men and my white, upper middle class female relatives somehow skated by in life without ever developing that fundamental fear. I think this is what happens when you grow up with parents that tell you that your belongings are not yours, your toys are theirs and not yours and can be thrown away at any time, even if someone gives you money as a gift they will "hold it so you don't lose it" and then not give it to you when requested because they believe it's actually theirs and want to use it for socks or school supplies

Screw movies. No one needs movies. If someone had to be abused to make a movie then the movie shouldn't have been made at all. Movies are not that important. This is not a debate about exactly how bad the abuse has to be in order for us to start questioning the artist or whether the project was worth it; I'm literally saying, there do not need to be movies. I agree with this but I don't understand why OLD is not the solution then. You have to weed through a lot of people you don't like on OLD but it gives you access to a large number of people and it gives you the safety and freedom to decide whether you like them before allowing them to interact with you. OLD may have made LVM act even worse than they did before but HVM are HVM regardless of the forum. If Tinder could turn a man bad then he was never HVM in the first place. If you're not supposed …

If someone wants something, you can punish, you can reward, you can punish AND reward to get them to stay away from it, and many times they will still seek it out. I remember when I first started frequenting online spaces I didn't even realize that the numbers were usually birth year, and they would include their first and sometimes even last name... like who just puts that out there like that?

This is a great question -- people have told me to look at high-end events and mixers but I don't think I know what counts as high-end or what differentiates these things from just going to a bar.

Your first point is a possibility, but I feel like I get very little response even when I'm just looking for casual sex. As for the second point, that still raises the same question because obviously they are choosing some people for dating at some point, and the question is why I don't get to that point.

It just seems like this is kind of circular or solipsistic especially in the absence of a description of what a normal level of confidence would be or specific examples of what is wrong. I mean, the whole post was kind of about how people have been blaming my confidence for years and how that has never been helpful and blocks me from analyzing other aspects of the situation by putting the blame on me. It seems like it goes: there is a problem -> if you talk about that problem then you are underc…

Was it helpful? I contacted and paid an Instagram dating expert and she seemed to just be annoyed with me for not getting it. Did Shallon actually identify how she knew that you had low self worth?

That's a good point, real life feedback could be helpful. I may ask my sibling.

No. It's not something that has ever really happened for me and I genuinely don't desire it. I understand that you can't make your whole life about your partner; I enjoy my free time, I do many activities in my free time, they just don't include other people. I know that some people say that this reduces my value, and that may be true in some cases, but there have been plenty of times where a man has no way of knowing whether I have friends or not. As long as I'm not asking for his constant atte…

This is funny and everything but does he have an actual picture of his face? He would never swipe right on you if you didn't.

Number 4 does bring up some possible weak links here. I don't have a group of friends who can set me up with someone. I do hear people mentioning that as a way of meeting a partner, but I don't have platonic friends and it seems wrong to make them just so I might meet a partner eventually. I think you've identified something important here though so thank you for the insight.

If possible, could you point out which parts indicate a possible self-esteem problem? I generally feel that I have a normal level of confidence so it's hard to identify what might be coming off as low-confidence. In fact I worry that I might be overconfident and that is leading me to feel secure in approaching or showing interest in people I shouldn't. I definitely want to work on having an accurate level of confidence.

I do my best to employ FDS although I guess I haven't been in it long enough to say whether I do it well. I allow men to pay for me on the date and I firmly believe in making him bring something to the table and that there is nothing wrong with making him pay. There are times we may have sex early on if that's what I feel like doing but often I cannot even get to that stage with someone. I attempt to demonstrate self-respect by having a nice outfit when I show up for a date. I try not to text fi…

This is a great point but I also don't appreciate when I like a guy's hair in his pictures and then he shows up to the date wearing a stupid beanie. Like how would he feel if he couldn't see my hair during the date? Rude.

Having surgery This is really the issue right here. We have to account for the absolute extremes of possibility while they don't even have to give us normal everyday decency. Then when our thought processes go to the extremes of possibility because we were taught to be that way, we get called crazy and dramatic.

I've had female therapists tell me "maybe he was busy." Like why are you fucking with me lady you should be on my side. If he wanted to text, he would, plain and simple. It just happens that no one ever wants to text me that much. So I have no examples to show that I know how to respond appropriately when it does happen, because it doesn't happen, and then I get blamed for being the one who has the wrong approach. The blame from people who are supposed to support me is so much more painful than …

I'm sorry that people are calling you a troll because I don't think you are a troll. But I do think you are either very young/inexperienced or, more likely, you have not been treated the way we have been treated by men. I don't say that in a mean way -- my sister is the same and it is astonishing to me. How is it that this has been clear to me for my entire adult life and when I tell my own sister about it I practically have to beg her to believe me? It's not hard for me to form a connection wit…
