There other issue with "women attempt it more" is that if a person completes a suicide on the first attempt the Attempt + Complete = 1 + 1. If they don't and attempt again and again, then the Attempt + Complete could be much higher. I believe that the fact that women use not immediately lethal method inflates the numbers for attempts.

Your hair dresser analogy isn't near the same. One (hair dresser) is a common fact that the vast majority of the time the haircuts for men are much faster and rarely need special things done. A gym membership will cost the gym virtually the same no matter how often you use it. In theory the more equipment is used the faster it breaks down but that would be pretty hard to quantify and use it to justify a price difference.

Also, when someone actually commits suicide , that ends their attempts, if they do it on the first try they are counted as 1 suicide attempt. If they don't succeed they are free to try it again and again. Also , my understanding (Could be wrong) is that the numbers don't just count suicide attempts but also suicidal behaviours (whatever that means is still up in the air). In a nutshell. If someone works 40 hours per week they will get paid a certain amount, if they then start working 10% (44) more hours, linear pay would say they will get paid 10% more , but in the real world, as you increase your hours worked , the pay does not go up in a 1:1 linear fashion, especially past the 40 hour mark.
