Go to the mall or busy streets with a lot of shopping. Have a shopping bag on you, walk in and out of stores, or just genuinely do some shopping. Point is that you should give the impression that you're out and minding your own business and just happened to notice her and wanted to interact. Also when you've been validated as someone who some girls want, you become subconsciously more confident. You're insecurities don't leak out all the time anymore and girls can sense that. Completely agree with the note that now in North American society, women actually get rewarded for breaking that social convention because if she cheats on you and goes to court for anything, she'll probably win. Which means marriage is riskier than what everyone is lead to believe and men have to be better and better at managing their relationships because the traditional societal constructs are holding less and less power.

This is the one that's crippling for me. I've read again and again things like "other people is too obsessed with themselves to make you feel embarrassed" or "don't worry about what other people think about you". Maybe start small by asking for the time or directions. Do that a lot with all different kinds of strangers and then try to make a conversation out of it. "Hey, you have the time? 3:14, cool. By the way is that the new iPhone? What made you get it?" If you do that over and over it won't be very difficult to make small talk with people. Great insightful post. Could you share some thoughts about the process of finding out who you want to be and identifying who you currently are? When I was reading your post, my mind drew a blank on "who you want to be". I have no idea what that is for me. All I know are some superficial things that I want (money, attention, validation etc) but I can't identify what kind of person I actually want to be. Check out Richard La Ruina's stuff on gaming in loud dance clubs. Non-verbal communication is pretty key in clubs and its hard to make a really good conversation in loud environments where there's alcohol everywhere so the way you converse (body language, eye contact, spacing etc) will help you here. I'm in the same position but what I did was I made small talk with my coworkers became quick friends with many of them and asked them about going out etc (I work in a pretty boring town like yours). Most of them knew a few fun places, some knew club/bar/pub owners/employees and said they could get me on guest lists easy. Also I practice conversing with my co workers which helps me expand my knowledge of the place I work at and allows me to hang out with different people when the time comes.
