Sounds to me like you've used these ideas most healthfully. Usually, they are found much later, after a broken relationship, when there is considerable anger to work through. I had a similar experience. I realized that I and everyone I knew were in a happy little bubble, insulated from many hard realities. Regular hard working people look cranky and possibly racist from inside that bubble. They aren't. They are just exposed to more problems, and they carry unpleasant truths.
