dad was too busy working to support 4 kids on a single income. That's often how dads show love, because we're not good at showing it other ways. If he worked hard enough to make sure 4 kids were supported when mom flaked...

Depends on where and the case. I got full custody of my daughter and $75/mo in child support. It's over $7000 now, and I've gotten $10 so far, but you can't get blood from a turnip.

I agree. I was only responding to "people would never say happy mother's day to single dads."

I was a solo dad for years and got wished a happy mother's day all the time. Common FB post from my friends (which included many single dads) was "happy mothers day to all the moms out there and the dads doing double duty." I didn't really think it was necessary, but it didn't seem worth getting my knickers twisted over.

Child support laws, custody laws, and a painfully biased family court system are men's rights issues. They treat women and men differently. Tax returns and stimulus checks pay the parent that is owed (regardless of sex) by intercepting the check from the parent it is paid to (regardless of sex.) The stimulus interception feels biased because of the broken other things. No argument from me that the other things are broken.

It'll absolutely get subtracted from the amount owed, just like an intercepted tax return would be.

Coronavirus pandemic hits man loses job I know women that have lost jobs. This doesn't seem sexist. man cannot pay child support Also happening to women that owe child support. man goes into arrears Or woman... man doesn't get $1200 coronavirus stimulus cheque because he's in arrears Again, or woman. Look, custody system is broken. No argument from me, I'm a rare win for men having gotten full custody. I feel like the stimulus isn't adding new problems and isnt implemented in a way that's anti-m…

While it is true that more men pay child support, I dont think this is a men's rights issue. I'm a man with custody and owed child support. If she gets a check (which i doubt, but that's beside the point) it'll pay back child support to me. A man. That seems... equal. Isnt that what we're aiming for?

I conceded that custody and legal system are a problem. I also think that the child support enforcement is done pretty fairly. No one at the child support enforcement office has the ability to fix the legal system or the broken custody systems.

My ex-wife hasn't paid me the child support she owes me, and she can't renew her license, get an alcohol server's permit, or a passport. Legal system, custody, etc. May be a men's rights issue. This.... Really kinda isn't. I see it enforced across the board regardless of what sex the deadbeat parent is.

In situations like this, individuals choose to sacrifice. There's no law, there's a social compulsion, but if any man there wanted to run, he ran. There are no real external consequences for not taking a bullet for a woman or a child. I don't see what men choose to do as a 'rights' issue. It when we don't choose.... To be circumcised, to be drafted, to be alienated from our children, to be on the hook for 2+ decades of support with absolutely no say in the matter, the be vilified around children…

I personally know a woman who charged a grizzly bear with a stick because it had knocked down get boyfriend in the Washington woods. (They're married now.) I"d take a bullet for my wife or my daughter or my son... I like to think that's because I love them, but I suppose it could be because I don't know I've been brainwashed by society to believe my life is worth less than theirs. I'm going to believe it's the former.

I very much misunderstood, then, and I apologize. I'd delete my reply, but then yours would look weird, so I'll just leave it. (I thought we were commenting on how a man would be 'expected' to do this... The "women and children first" thing seems to prompt bitter rage around here, and it maybe should, I thought this was more of that.)

Just no. So many real problems... Even as this tragedy gets turned into a discussion of violence and masculinity... A man dying protecting his wife isn't a men's rights issue, it's just a person sacrificing for a person they love. Men and women are allowed to do that. This subreddit is turning into everything it claims to hate. EDIT: typo.

Im interested in the opinions of people who clearly have zero understanding of how mental illness can lead to situations such as this. I am, for the record, intimately aware of how mental illness can lead to situations like this. I'm also aware of how mental illness can lead to divorce. What I don't like to do is blame things that are caused by mental illness on divorce.

No, it's not their fault. Depression is very real, can be truly devistating, and, I realize, can be extremely difficult or impossible to overcome even with qualified treatment, it's why I put the word 'probably' in my first sentence. However, I was responding to "this is what divorce does" in the original post. In the case of severe depression, it's not what 'divorce' does, it's what a legitimate and heartbreaking medical/emotional problem does. It's also what alcoholism can do, I've seen it, an…

That sucks, but if he has nobody, that's probably on him. Divorce is tough, family can be awful, but even without my wife and kids I've got 20 former co-workers that are now friends, 3 different sets of neighbors, church buddies... Anyone that alone either choose to be or is way damaged somehow. People are communal by nature, it's how we survived.

CSED had been pretty aggressive with my ex-wife in New Mexico, they've yanked her drivers license and her server's card, but she's not earned a penny legally in the 5 years since she left, so there's not much they can do. They also took down this sign https://i.imgur.com/yImS1.jpg when I complained. They did try to zero her balance and cancel child support while she was in prison, which I didn't let them do. I'm not sure how many men would get that, but overall it seems to vary by state. New Mex…

It kinda happens on Mother's day too. I was a solo Dad for 6 years, and while I tried to just downplay mother's day, my facebook feed had me mentioned many times as "and all the Dads who are standing in for Mom."

I'm with you, I don't know that I would have chosen it, but I've no complaints with how it is. I've got an amazing sex life, things get where I need them to go every time, gets my wife where she needs to when that's the plan. When I'm by myself, that's good too. Never had any medical issues or sensitivity issues... I'm don't advocate for getting it done, but I've never wasted any time being unhappy that it was.

That's disappointing. One thing I have to give New Mexico credit for is that in the past 4 years, I've seen "deadbeat Dad" purged from posters and signs, and even from Ms. Martinez's speeches. She promised about 6 months ago to go after deadbeat parents; I listened to the whole speech, didn't hear a gender-specific phrase once. CSED actually seems to be trying for me, as well, but... can't get blood from a stone. Hopefully AZ will take a lesson from it's neighbor.

I was a solo Dad from when my daughter was 2 through 7... both ends of the spectrum happen surprisingly often, though I saw the effuse praise "oh, it's so sweet that you two are spending time together! You should also consider calling CPS, which can also be done anonymously. In a split-custody situation, unless CPS believes that the other parent is involved with the challenges in the primary home somehow, they'll just over-rule custody orders and place the child with the other parent pending an investigation, so the risk to the kids is minimal... if you believe these children are in danger, call the anonymous tip line, give as much info as you can, and let them handle it. In spite of occasiona…

My state doesn't require you (in most cases) to maintain the standard of living, only to return them to the standard of living from before the marriage. In my case, that was great, because she was unemployed and living with her mother when we got married, so... the fact that she left, moved in with her mother, and refused to get a job made that all line up. In longer marriages, it can be handled differently, but I think that should be included in your plan, too... which I like very much.

Depends on the state. In some states, when children are taken and put in foster care, the Mom (and Dad, I assume, if known) will be charged child support. Honestly, though, in cases where parental rights are involuntarily terminated, I think they don't get paid real often...

A standard question with all of my doctors for several years now has been "Do you feel safe in your home and personal relationships?" I laughed the first time they asked me that because it was me and my 3 year-old daughter, so... no, not really. Anyone with a toddler knows the amazing amount of damage they can do for their size. She's left the state, cross-state enforcement is a challenge. She's not worked, either, though, and there are active warrants for her arrest. She only owes $75/mo anyway. This is horrible, but it's not the norm... my ex did 1/10th of this kind of crap and I walked with full legal and physical custody, child support (not that I've seen a dime) And she doesn't even get visitation. On the other hand, choosing to label men who do step up and parent step-kids or adopted kids as 'cuckold' or (as I'm being called in this thread, in spite of being single) "captain save-a-ho" is weak. If the original idea was "Men that will raise other people's children are cool, men that walk away from their own children are losers" I think we might have avoided this argument altogeth…

That's a pretty 'base' mammalian view. By the same token, if you can kill the man that lives next door and his children and impregnate his wife, you're "winning at life" too...

That's a crap situation, and it should never happen, but I don't think the majority of parents raising non-bio children are in this case. I think it happens more than we're aware, but I doubt it's the majority... and I think the attempts in this thread to shit on step-parents as "weak willed cuckold losers" is... sad. The danger here, in MRA-land, is in judging a gender by a minority... women are pissed because men are abusive (which some are) and controlling (which some are) and chauvinistic (w…

Research the "straw man" fallacy and try again.. nothing in my comments misrepresented your position at all... your position is quite clear, "These children already have a father" and I left it alone. Stick to the concepts you understand...

Maybe they don't have a father. Maybe he died in Afghanistan protecting his fellow soldiers from a sniper. Maybe he died trapped in a fire trying to rescue someone's grandmother from a burning apartment building in detroit, or got shot in the head responding to a domestic violence call in rural Nebraska. Maybe supported his child until the day the cancer spread so far that he couldn't work anymore, and maybe he spent the most painful day of his life off the morphine so his last note to his child…

The chance to pass on your genetic legacy? What kind of 12th century lion king crap is that? The chance to raise a child to adulthood, to form a valueless, directionless human being into a self-assured, resourceful, valuable and upstanding member of society, and to feed your love and support into a mutually caring relationship is the value of being a parent, whether it's a DNA match to you or not.

I'm usually right there with most of what happens in this subreddit, but your offense to this is just you looking to take offense. My step-Dad was a fucking hero... he came along when I was 4 and there was not a moment, not a fraction of an instant where I felt like he was anything other than my Dad. There wasn't a single time where I ever felt treated differently or unfairly compared to his biological child (my half-sister) nor was there a single instance until the day he died (and left a will …

Because when dealing with a feminist, the idea that they need a man to 'defend' them strikes at the core of their being... it's deeply offensive to suggest that they're not 100% capable of defending themselves, providing for themselves, or being completely happy, fulfilled, and self-actualized without a representative of the patriarchy to care for them. While this subreddit is mostly populated by rational, grounded men just interested in achieving an actual equality, I'm sure there are those who…

(I'm not sure I remembered which subreddit I was in when I said this... perhaps our advocacy of strong female partners defending us won't be so appreciated here... :)

This is why you need a badass girlfriend... I protect mine from overly-drunk or overly aggressive guys, she messes up little bitches who punch me for no reason at concerts.

In fairness, she'll have less and less 'help' as she gets older. My ex did the same thing, trading sex for financial help to keep fighting me with less success here - CPS has 'closed the file' on me and no longer investigates me based on anonymous calls, etc.. - but she's had 3 more kids, been addicted to meth, and basically the quality of guy she can get to help her out has decayed to the point that she's not even threatening anymore. I used to worry about her showing up in the middle of the ni…

Depends on the judge. My ex got her visitation cancelled for failing to return her and got to spend 48 hours in jail on contempt charges.

Seeing this now with a friend, dealt with it myself... the courts, at least around here, are wising up to it and clearly didn't believe my ex's random accusations, at least after the first 2 weeks of the restraining order. The court Psychologist got talked her at length and basically gave the court a report saying it was his belief that all the accusation were "imagined or concocted" and her credibility throughout the rest of the process was severely damaged. Which, sadly, is going to create a b…

Interim support for one child during the 'wait for the divorce' phase from me to her: $1700/mo. Amount I paid in 6 months: $10,200. Support order once I got full custody, from her to me: $75/mo. Amount she's paid: $0. Amount, even if she were paying, I would get before my daughter turns 18: $13,500. So far, all they've done because she's behind, is pull her alcohol server's permit in a state she doesn't live in. -Z

For what its worth, this applies (differently) to women as well, apparently. A decade or so ago when I was having some severe GI issues with no obvious cause, they doctor ran a 'tox screen' in case my wife was trying to slowly poison me. (And told me that... exactly.) -Z

I agree... MRAs need to be real careful not to fall into the trap of "yea, that's okay, but it's NEVER GOOD ENOUGH that WRAs tend to embrace." I, at least, appreciate the efforts made towards neutrality by this campaign. -Z

Hey, me too... 100% legal, 100% physical. My tiny princess is safe, happy, healthy, secure, and WAY better off. (yea, crazy on this one too... and addicted. Yay!) Congrats. It's a tough road, and absolutely worth it. Not to demean/undermine/whatever the army, cuz they kick ass too, but it's the toughest job you'll ever love. -Z

Once a week or so I read this forum, and every single time it makes me thank God, the universe, and every other conceivable thank-able entity that I have 100% custody of my daughter. And it makes me so very saddened for the men in this world who aren't nearly as lucky... -Z

My business is protecting my child. People I don't know taking pictures of my child, even from a distance, makes what they're doing my business. How did you possibly read what I wrote and apply the words "interrogating" and "accosting" to the scenario? Read first, then reply, huh? -Z

For what it's worth, I was absurdly careful about this at swimming lessons this summer, recognizing that swimming attire photography is more likely to be perceived as creepy and given the proximity of children to their instructor, it was nearly impossible to photography JUST my child. For what it's worth, of the other 7 parents involved in this 8 child class, not one of them had a problem with me taking pictures, and we had several discussion how stupid it is that society has progressed to a poi…
