I'm a Dad with 100% custody of my 4 year-old. My child's mother was ordered to pay child support starting July of last year -- to date I've seen nothing. I don't need it, so I wasn't chasing it, but after 12 months I figured some record of her not paying might be useful in the future, so I packed up the paperwork (and the child) and headed for the local 'Child Support Enforcement Office."

Getting in the door apparently involves emptying your pockets and getting wanded down by a rent-a-cop. Okay, standard for state offices lately, I guess.

Sign in. Sit down... stare at a poster that says "Dads make a difference: Child support is YOUR responsibility." Nice...

Get my name called, head to an office. Sit down across the table from a middle-aged woman who confirms my name, sighs, and says "So, how far behind in payments are you?" I clarify that I'm there because I'm not getting child support for the child I have custody of, and she says "Are you sure? What makes you think you're owed child support?"

Grr...

So, after handing over official copies of divorce decrees, etc. she finally comes around and says....

"Don't worry. We have Deadbeat Dad laws that can help you!"

Really? I have no complaints with the court systems, I feel blessed and lucky that I got a fair shake there and they actually did what was best for my child, but after the courts EVERY TURN has been more and more obnoxious.

Going to apply for her passport next, already got a feeling on how that's going to go...
