It takes 3 years to heal an attachment style. We just talked about how my anxious thoughts and feelings weren’t helpful or true. I’m dating a securely attached guy now and it’s so much easier than dating an avoidant person. Night and day!

I think it was yourpersonality.net or some variation of that. You can definitely flub the results by answering it with what you want the answer to be rather than what you know the answer realistically is. The trick is being honest even if you don’t like the answer. And also, you can be a combo of secure and anxious which makes avoidant people bring out your anxious qualities. Also people can change you from secure to anxious.

I know it seems like a lot of work, but really just start working on it. I learned about this in 2014, started working on it with a therapist in 2017. I forgot about it for a while and have been single and (GENUINELY) loving it for two years. Recently took an attachment test and found that I’m securely attached now ! One of my proudest accomplishments.

True. The less attractive, the less confident, the more fucked up mind games the play to try to keep you around.

Dude that’s so interesting to me that you’ve had the same experience. My ex was a narcissist... But the crazy thing is, I was much more functional than he was when we started dating. Now that I’ve been through that I’m in worse shape, for sure. But my ADHD wasn’t even remotely close to being the problem in our relationship so that’s why I know I don’t need to change anything about myself before dating now. I just feel like I gained an awareness about who to let into my circle. Like if someone tr…

Also, if you want more info on ADHD and what I was referring to, please see above.

It’s hard to articulate in a few sentences, but that wasn’t my aim at all. More just to disclose something that’s difficult to talk about, and I don’t know if it was the right timing to divulge this information, but I do have to share my ADHD with my dates upfront. Now that I understand it better, it affects me both positively and negatively and I want someone who can appreciate and accept both. One of the ways it affects me is time-blindness or dopamine deficiency that makes simple things like …

Hey I totally understand your point of view and I don’t think it’s generally acceptable to be 35 minutes late for a date either. I always communicate if I’m running late and find a time to meet that works for both of us but unfortunately he didn’t respond to my text initiating that conversation. At that time I would expect someone to either let me know that they can’t be flexible with the meeting time, or change the time so we can get there at the same time! This was not an ideal situation and s…

Wooooooow! I just went on a 2nd date with this guy who I was recruited to date from a matchmaker (not joking) and I was 35 min late due to a snowball of unfortunate events. This dude was so rude the rest of the date. Honestly, it’s super rude for me to be that late too but he was inconsolable, I felt like I needed to be pleading for his graces and then I thought, nope just gonna let it be awkward since I already apologized and gave him notice. At the end of it I disclosed my ADHD and explained t…

Oh ya. He was so good at that whole act. Now I can tell the difference between a mask and a real good-natured person! But holy hell, those two things look a lot alike to the untrained eye. Glad this sub brings this stuff to light.

Lol! Seriously! She was a rescue so actually she did soften up with all that attention so you found the bright side! Lmao and thanks I’m so happy to be moved on as well.

So my ex did this to me with... wait for it... my roommates cat. Lol he literally didn’t have another girl to try to flaunt or idealize so he would talk about how much he loved this girl’s cat and show her (the cat) verbal and physical affection while withholding that kind of attention from me. Literally writing this makes me feel crazy but that’s the whole idea behind it. He did end up being emotionally abusive and that was the first red flag that seemed off which I ignored. 2.5 years wasted on…

Sis, no!! A LVM has to play games because they don’t believe they can get a woman by being themselves. Literally must trick women into staying with them. That’s disgraceful. And shows that they don’t even expect you to love them because -most importantly- they don’t love themselves. You can’t love someone if you don’t love your damn self. Period.

Dude. This is so sad but reading this reminded me of a girl that I don’t talk to anymore who tried sooo hard to be this cool girl. She was a friend of a friend and got me a job with her working at a startup. We were the only girls working with like 6 other dudes in a small office space. The way they collectively talked about sex and women was disgusting. I literally did not participate and one day she was hurt because they were talking about my looks in front of her like she was not attractive a…

Ok same. I’ve just talked to the sweet guy I’m seeing about how it takes me a “little longer to feel comfortable around someone new.” (He doesn’t need to know it’s because he makes it very clear that he likes me and there’s no chase lol) So I’ve asked him to move slower with me.. maybe not kiss me every time unless there’s a moment.. and have some bowling/activity dates where we can see if we can just have fun together. He likes me a lot so he was super open to this idea and is willing to do wha…

I absolutely hate when a guy says something rude and sends a dumb smiling emoji with it. Like, “I had fun calling you that name so if you respond with annoyance I will say you’re overreacting. :)” I get instantly enraged.

Have you ever noticed this also happens in groups like with bullying? As soon as one co-worker starts speaking disrespectfully to another and that person takes it, it’s like the whole office loses respect and stops affording that person the same decencies they would others.

Are you me? I had an identical experience and I would love posts like this. If you ever want to brainstorm or test drive a theory, I’m all ears! And OP, I think you’re spot on with this. A part I would take out is ‘always’ because I do think this mostly describes abusive men... but man, dude fck. My ex totally pulled this on me. Asked me why my last relationship failed, I told him how great it started out and how all of that stuff stopped and he did the exact same thing. Started with all the thi…

This. I think there needs to be a balance. The important thing to notice is that if they’re attracted to emotional unavailability (distancing/ not catching feelings all the way) they are probably emotionally unavailable. If you use this strategy to attract men you will attract the kind of guys who are freaked out by interest. Showing openness and interest early on is healthy and to be expected on both sides. The same kind of men that you repel by being overly available will be drawn to a woman w…
