Lol as if anything else we’ve been talking about is “scientifically valid”. Our brain’s models of reality are literally built from anecdotes. A poll of 5k people is more “scientific” than you and I talking about our random off-hand experiences. More of the comments are positive experiences. You are looking for confirmation if your own biased beliefs, because you’ve clearly already decided that vulnerability = bad. Reddit is extremely biased, especially when it comes to men. Most guys on here are…

No need to change who you are to accommodate a biased view of women. Most women prefer it when men are vulnerable. https://www.reddit.com/r/polls/comments/101nsp2/if_were_being_honest_does_being_vulnerable/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

RP is the belief that all women are biologically like that. So, if you believe that, then I’d certainly say you’re a bit RP. The point is, both women and men are generally born capable of the same emotional reactions. However, it is 100% true that some cultures punish men for certain types or emotional expression. That is the origin of toxic masculinity, and it’s reinforced by both men, women, and societal communication like your own. In my experience (and many others) women will be loving and s…

Exactly… RP characterizes masculinity and projects the complexity of the human experience onto a single dimension. Like all conspiracy theories, it’s simple, and that makes it seductive. In a nutshell: “women are biologically incapable of providing the love you seek, and vulnerability will always end in pain.” So… TRP men stop trying to find healthy, loving relationships, and they play dread game instead… objectifying women and essentially getting revenge on them. Which, inevitably perpetuates t…

The point is, they feel more of those pressures when they adapt that societal role. If your argument is that the experiences of the two sexes is so fundamentally different, that a female can never truly know male experience, then that is a belief you have fostered within yourself that I don’t personally share. It’s a belief that actually goes against the best we have in scientific research on sex and gender studies today, but to each their own. My only point was, these differences exist before t…

I disagree. I don’t believe one can truly be healthy without embracing some degree of pain. If you always run from pain and try to rationalize it away, you will live an unhealthy life. Pain is an inevitable part of life. Eating healthy food, exercising, etc are not possible without some discomfort and sacrifice. Rejection and vulnerability go hand in hand. If you’re not vulnerable (with yourself, others, etc) then you’ll never be rejected. But, a healthy life starts with knowing yourself and you…

“Brain” is the operative word here. Sex is not social, but gender is both biological and social.

That actually further proves my point. Females, transitioning to males, report feeling the same pressures as a biological male before undergoing hormone treatment, but after changing dress and primary appearance. They feel more isolated than they used to, more pressure to suppress emotions, and less likely to engage in pro-social behavior. This is more proof that socialization and societal expectations are defining these roles. Sex is not strictly binary. https://www.malecontraceptive.org/blog/b…

This is so accurate. Just Google anything related to dating advice, and 70% of the sites are RedPill, targeting men for paid programs and reinforcing their ideology that women are fundamentally incapable of love. By accepting this belief, men see women as formulaic objects, and it relieves them of their pain. It tells them that it wasn’t their fault, and that they were playing an impossible game. The problem is, love is painful, and hiding from that pain will just keep you from finding real happ…

Your language is quite binary in suggesting “socialization has been disproven”. That’s simply not true, and in fact, socialization theory has been proven. In fact, patterns of socialization have been shown to significantly mediate both hormonal and biological circuits of influence. Hormones may attenuate access to emotions, but it’s not clear if it’s direct or due to the societal effects of their expression. I’ve read the trans-gender accounts you refer to, and in most cases, when women convert …

Just wondering, but how do you feel it’s harmful? Also, are you disagreeing with the APA document or the Shape article? The APA doc has carefully thought-out and peer reviewed opinions, which the article does not.

That’s interesting thank you. Yeah I think biology plays a role too, but there’s a big difference between “biology plays a role” and “a person with a vagina can never truly love due to their biology”. The same statement has vastly different interpretations when filtered through personal bias and learned beliefs. Edit: Used ? Instead of ,

My mistake, I updated the post wording. I’d still classify it as “medical” in the general sense, but you are correct in that most psychologists do not hold a medical degree. That said, many psychiatrists do, and they do have representation in APA resources.

To be fair, that is just a theory. Even if those years of evolution exist, it may be manifest through hormonal controls (which we have power to consciously manipulate). This is evident in those who have undergone sex change and experienced mental changes as a by-product. I think the point is - nobody actually knows.

Thanks for sharing that. Still why do you think these tendencies exist? Is it fundamental biological / evolutionary differences that made the world this way, or is it something else entirely?

Yeah that’s true, I think 70% of Tinder users are male. So, at least in this context the law of supply and demand is prominent. Still... I wonder why there are more men than women, and why the offset in likes / matches isn’t linear with the ratio of men to women. Still feels like women tend to be more selective and less interested. Idk... it’s so confusing to me.

Just wondering, but what do you believe causes these tendencies, and why do you believe they exist? Data shows that a woman at the same attractivness of an equivalent male tends to receive substantially more options on dating apps. So, I agree that women tend to have more options (at least in that context). But, the number of options doesn’t determine whether or not one is a “chooser”. Some men are much picker. For example, a friend of mine has only been with one women because his standards are …

Ok if that’s true then what is the fundamental solution? Get hot and play dread game? Women do care about looks and status, but men do too. In my own experience, women have pretty insanely high expectations for who they’ll consider “hot”. But, they’ll sleep with and fall madly in love with guys who pass their minimum bar of “doable” if they’re attracted to your other qualities. Women do want nice guys, but they don’t want doormats. They’re still people, and dread game, while it works for emotion…

Higher threshold for initial physical attraction - yes. But, women grow attraction over time. Women will still talk with people that meet their bar of “he’s not terrible”. Plus... we can’t generalize to the whole population. Women are all vastly different. About 50% or attractiveness is in-agreement and the rest is individual.

I would say that in pill culture, hypergamy is the idea that, specifically women, are always willing to “trade up” (mate switching theory) to a more secure man and are incapable of real love. Here’s a RP quote: “You are hating women because you have the wrong expectations for them. Don't hate someone for something they CANNOT be. Women are, by nature, manipulative, attention-seeking, inconsistent, emotional, and hypergamous. Accept this truth. Once you do, you can game women for what they are ..…

Not sure that’s the best rhetoric for this sub. The only thing “blackpill” did was give us information. Information feverishly compiled by a small group of people trying to heal their own pain in an unhealthy, biased way. I may have read “blackpill”, but I’ve never submitted to their ideologies. That said some of the associated research is interesting for sure. That said, the research institution is just as rife with error as pill culture. But how different? Like.. are their really innate drivers? I found a different website, “The Adult Man” and they suggest hyergamy exists and it’s a myth that it’s a myth. There’s actually a lot of evidence to suggest that economic hypergamy is an evolved, inborn female mating behavior, and that it still persists in the world today—despite the gender revolution and the massive strides that have been made in gender equality over the course of the last 200 years. https://theadultman.com/love-and-lu…

Men and women are two sides to the same coin, and we are both forced into a society we did not choose. Luckily, we have free-will (or at least the illusion of it) and we can change the pressures we feel. I believe both men and women suffer in different ways in-part due to their sexual differences.

Definitely! Plus the studies are cherry-picked and only show a little cross-section of the complexity that is the human experience. In science, we form a hypothesis, usually represented as if X, then Y. Then, we create the conditions for X to occur and test to see if we’re right. However, there’s often major discrepancies regarding what constitutes X and Y. It’s especially bad in cognitive science and evolutionary biology where abstract concepts like “attractiveness” are being tested instead of …

It doesn’t change the point - it wasn’t his looks, it was something else. I’m sure lots of men on TRP / TBP are autistic or edge the spectrum. It makes it much easier to latch onto data than emotion. Jake Davison is another. Totally average / above looking dude who went ballistic when he could have found love. Obviously you’re here for a reason. Commenting on r/exredpill posts. Well, my own personal observations say otherwise, and your feelings are based on skewed, unrepresentative facts pushed by TBP / TRP. Why don’t you actually try to argue against yourself? Do the research, find the “facts”. The problem is, there’s always a way to invalidate a study and spin it through confirmation bias. TBP and TRP are “safety nets” for guys who don’t know how to process their pain of rejection. Take Elliot Rodger for example. He’s a good looking dude. More attractive than me. Yet…

Definitely true. The real problem is TBP and TRP have been brainwashed. It’s as simple as that. They’re getting their deep pain and insecurity met with a simple answer that lets them be the victim. That’s convenient because they don’t have to do anything but complain. Both women and men want people who are capable of reviewing the data and thinking for themselves. Evolutionary psych is real, but it’s being horribly misinterpreted. Instead of dealing with theories they should be using actual data…

Agreed. Everyone has features that are more and less attractive. I happen to know several very short men, less attractive, balding, average intelligence men who have dated and married wonderful women. After the initial attraction phase it’s not really about looks much. She just has to say “well he’s not ugly” to consider you. Then, be yourself and show her you’re a great guy. Honestly, even if she DOES think you’re ugly she can still change her feelings. I know women who were originally totally …

Even if EvoPsych were legit, that doesn’t mean TRP’s narrative use of it is. TRP laser focuses on ONE aspect - that men prefer many and women prefer few. Because of that they suggest women are hypergamous. Problem is... we violate our “biology” all the time as humans. Other animals living today actually operate with the opposite model... so who’s to say an animal as complex as a human can’t? We have matriarchal societies on earth today. Plus, there are so many other evolved systems (like the att…

Every boyfriend or girlfriend is going to break up with you someday and move on with someone else and be happy with them. That’s just false. People get married and stay together through old age and death all the time... my grandparents (on both sides) and pretty much everyone else in my family. Life is about the journey, not the destination. I get that, and I agree with that message. Love and loss are two sides of the same coin, and pain / fear definitely drives the pills. But, sometimes things …

That’s beautiful and I love that you have this love for him. Agree with the main point though I do prefer broccoli to coke (I’ve never tried coke). Fundamentally we can accept or reject ourselves. Any effort to “improve” is effectively a form of self-rejection. I think one great way to “improve” by accepting yourself as you are. That said, in practice, I think balance usually wins.

His whole point is that he dislikes how society prioritizes that attribute in mainstream men. Not really sure why you’re getting so touchy about it. He never said he wanted to force anything. In fact he is the one being forced by society. Nothing wrong with imagining an alternative reality. Conversations like these are how change occurs.

I see so much conflicting research Idk what to believe anymore. From what I’ve seen, women have a higher bar to who they consider “attractive”, but they put a lower weight on attractiveness than men. So, in a sense they’re more selective but less selective in another. I’ve seen speed-dating data from the Columbia study that actually showed women were less selective than men. Forgetting the exact stats. Then of course I see all the hoopla about evolutionary bio and hypergamy when it comes to wome…

In any experiment, it’s always possible there’s an additional differentiating factor that would split the sample pool and skew the results. This is always a problem. The common sense fact that women are normal, rational people and not gold digging pieces of shit is enough auxiliary evidence to convince me that no... it’s not the life insurance policies. If half the population were that self-centered and incapable of love, we’d have major problems.

That’s interesting thanks for sharing that. I didn’t really buy that anyways, but I think the cultural / societal explanation is reasonable. I also think the biological explanation makes sense, BUT not to the extreme taken by TRP. TRP seems to completely disregard the value of the (also evolved) attachment system for keeping mates. Data also shows men are more likely to cheat in marriage than women (quick Google search). There are a few studies showing that women are highly selective, especially…

On average, women are more selective than men. Evolutionary biology gives one potential answer (the same that RP uses) but another is called the “embodied condition hypothesis”. Basically the idea is, the act of approaching actually increases attraction. Agreed - TRP removes fear by teaching men to hate. It’s easy to be confident and assertive when you have no respect for the person you’re communicating with. TRP teaches men to hate women and think of them as machines, not humans. Women are just like men. There are some biological differences, but at the end of the day, the systems that evolved are incredibly similar: https://www.apa.org/topics/personality/men-women-difference Some men are very selective, and some women are promiscuous.
