Having a men’s version of #MeToo, in my opinion, would result in more derailing conversation than allowing male sexual assault victims join in. People who don’t want to listen would easily make it “us vs. them” and use it as reason to dismiss acknowledging the problem because men suffer, too, and end it there instead of standing with the movement. While in fact allowing men to speak up about it continues the conversation of silencing victims, which is the reason #MeToo exists, to point out that …

I thought the same thing in the ant-man trailer when Paul Rudd asks Evangeline Lilly to show him how to punch, implying her to punch his hand. She punches him square in the face, theaters laugh. They'd gasp if it was gender swapped. Like even if she shook it off like he did, the audience would still see her as this weaker sex and it would demonize the male character.

Am I reading this wrong? The judge threw out the case but called the guy a "serial rapist?" Maybe I don't understand it but for some reason it sounds like the judge didn't let the case be tried because the judge believed the female student?

Well damn, I can almost see where an ignorant person might misconstrue "men's rights" to mean "women haters" but what are we supposed to do when "father's rights" means "being hitler" I wonder. What are supposed to say to these people when you want to bring up the question of the rights a person has when they are pertaining to their being a father? Just because some people are bigots does not make all people bigots, men and fathers' do have rights too and just because they are enforcing them doe…

This would be true if you changed "men's day" to "Ryan Gosling in Drive"

you are probably right. I am just a psychology major and it pains me to see that introverts are associated with negative connotations. I know that extroverts run the social world, but I never like to see that someone is labeled as something less because they were born different instead of for what choices they've made with what they were given. That's why I'm on men's rights and i believe in the foundation that feminism was once built on. I don't like people say "that's gay" to mean "that's stup…

People can't help who they are, if you are introverted then thats what you have. Its up to you to choose whether or not to talk to people, its up to you how you spend your time, and its up to you to not let it rule your life. But I just don't like that because someone in the moment chose not to talk, and that it was a bad move, the word that was thrown at them was "introversion" like it was a bad thing. I am not saying it was in the wrong context, I just found it undesirably cruel to people who …

I agree, i just think that using "introvert" as a negative quality to have is undesirable.

not offended by it at all, and I agree with you. I just think we need to not use "introvert" as if it is a negative quality to have. There is probably a better word to use is all. It was a really great post, well worded and everything. We absolutely need more level headed people like you. There are too many subjective and overly-passionate people out there trying to represent each side.

My very first experience on Geek Feminism Wiki,...is that of introversion and summary censorship. I know this question is off topic, but why did you have to use "introversion" as a negative descriptor?

That's the issue, but being mad that they aren't and men are is the wrong * angle* to take it on

I understand that this happens, and actually this isn't the first time I've heard of sexism agains women in carpentry fields. But its not the fault of the male carpenter who got the apprenticeship, even if he wasn't as good as you niece. It was up to the employer who hired him over your niece if she was better than he was. It doesn't matter the gender, its that someone more deserving who doesn't get hired for reasons they can't help is wrong.

I am totally for women being CEO's and making her own way up the ladder, but its not a woman's fault that there are these obstacles. Just like it is not a man's fault that he took advantage of opportunities he was given that weren't available to everyone. Should we not accept a scholarship, grant, or subsidy because not everyone gets one. Should we take a higher interest rate on a loan because someone else's bank didn't have such a good deal? No. We cannot blame someone for taking the opportunit…

I was explaining to her that its not men's fault that something this has (maybe) happened. When its isn't my gender's fault for being the one to make the business decisions to create and foster a corprate empire, its not up to my gender to say "wait, maybe I shouldn't go on until I know that there is a 1:1 ratio of me to an opposite gender to compete with me" And it isn't my gender's fault when he retires from such a high position to look at the people who may be worthy to inherit his position a…

Here's what I have to say. I agree, feminism is a system that could help men's issues as well as women's issues. It could help. But it doesn't. In my experience, feminists have the right idea because I agree with the fighting of unjust treatment of any gender, even women. Also in my experience, feminists are looking out for feminine interests alone. Fighting patriarchy is their goal, and while patriarchy does push men down as well they aren't fighting patriarchy for both sides. They want to dest…

Sexism on both ends even. It associates boys as needing to work, or that they don't finish work enough. It's a gender role It associates girls as not being serious about schoolwork and only needing to chit chat and fit a gender role.

There are commenters in every upvoted post begging people to stop using this subreddit to whine and start using it to help make change Unfortunately the upvoters still upvote the whiny stuff because its easier than taking the stance.

I am all about restructuring gender roles, but I don't think starting with replacing "some individuals go on killing sprees for a power fix" to "men go on killing sprees for a power fix that society expects them to have by now."

I've told my friends and parents that I don't harbor any harsh feelings towards my mom or dad for their choice to have me circumcised, and I won't go around being mad about since its something I can't change about myself by being mad. However, I wonder about what I'm missing out on. I know the reason that the full foreskin is cut off today (instead of just the tip from original tradition) is because it was theorized that without the foreskin, boys wouldn't want to masturbate. So its gotta be a b…

I feel the same way. Every single pro-circumcision argument has been greatly refuted, don't be so blind-sighted on purpose. Of course I'd know already if someone was like that before I married them, so it won't happen to me.

I can see that. My pre-med/doctor friends all have told me that if they were presented with a parent who asked them to do it while the other forbade it they would personally say "you need to sort this out first or find another doctor" It kind of gives me hope for the future, that my generation may have their priorities together. But then again it makes me think of the current generation running this country are trying to leave behind as many a minefield of unethical laws and practices.

Good luck adopting as a single dad! Even gay dads have a hard time, the agencies even give hetorosexual married couples with means a hard time before allowing them to adopt, let alone a single male who is automatically a red flag most cases anyway.

Oh alright I see what you're saying. But alas, this is not an option for everyone or else the human race would stop. Not that I'd mind if the world took a break for preventing overpopulating, but it's not gonna happen. Also, not an option for me as my life goal has always been to be a dad, and I won't give that up in protest of the rejection of men's rights.

Excellent point! I'm glad you brought this forward because it broadens the scope. I feel like this is something of an issue that hasn't really been addressed by anyone or set down. How much does one parent have over another in their rights over their child's medical rights? I think we should through in life support and vaccinations with circumcision in a discussion of mothers vs fathers say in their child's life.

Not? How would that give you more rights? Especially as a father not married to his child's mother, the mother gets all the say no matter how crazy she is. If you're married it already seems tough but when unmarried, men have no chance.

I'm copy/pasting this here too but Yes, that. But the great controversy is where God made the Hebrews his chosen people and asked them to be circumcised among other things. When Christ was crucified it's said somewhere that the Jews were no longer his chosen, and later that all of Christianity were his new children. Some Christians believe that we are considered his new chosen people and that is why we become circumcised still even though we are gentiles. I'm not one of those because I actually …

It seems kind of rediculous. I mean men are preconceived as naturally masturbating more anyway, why is it so wrong that he'd eventually move on to a toy? This would be like praising women for preferring die hard to the notebook, but making fun of any man who puts fight club instead of Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants his favorite movies list.

Definitely statutory rape! Meaning it was consentual, but I'm glad that the boy and his family are going to try to make things better for the baby girl as much as possible. It's ridiculous in a case like this to favor the mother. And i know I'm preaching to the choir, but its PROVEN that children of both sexes fare much worse when growing up without a father than those without a mother, so its so damn retarded that the courts favor mothers so much. I mean if you are going to favor them, don't fa…
