We’re going for a book about a complete Beta, and an old book too.

Just goes to show how deep the rot is, and how long pedestaling and all the related garbage that has mired our society has been with us.

The book?

A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.

The protagonist, Sydney Carton is in love with Lucie Manette.  The “Golden Thread” of the book.

The author pedestalizes her as much as Sydney.

Who does she love?  Not Sydney of course, she loves a man of higher status, a french aristocrat Charles Darnay.

What does Sydney get for his love?  What happens to every man that pedestals women?  He gets his head cut off so that she can live happily ever after with the alpha.

Want to know what not to do?  Don’t be Sydney (and yes I know he’s a cynical, alcoholic reprobate in the book, while Charles, despite getting raised by a cruel family is somehow a noble man.  No, my problem with Sydney is that his love leads to his destruction, even if he believes he is redeemed by it.

Women love this book, the idea of having a man so hopelessly in love with you that he dies for you is such a power rush for them, that they dream of being able to do this to some poor beta, and they get to run off with the alpha too, what could be more wonderful?

Ugh.

Love does not redeem you.  It gets you killed.
