Can’t seem to type today, so if there are any typos you can blame all the celebrating. This weeks movie is The Quiet Man from 1952, starring John Wayne and Maureen O’Hara.
Filmed mostly on the west coast of Ireland in the village of Cong a short distance North of Galway. Pretty place. The fields in the trailer above are now a golf course. Ah, progress. Anyway this movie is fun and entertaining. Wayne plays Sean Thornton a former prize fighter who killed a man in the ring and has sworn off violence. He falls for Mary Kate Danaher played by Maureen O’Hara. The climactic scene involves Sean Thornton and Will Danaher, Mary Kate’s brother. The only way Sean can win the respect of his bride, who believes he’s a coward, is to fight her brother for her dowry.
