So for Valentine’s day CBS news polled married American men and women to see if they would marry their spouse if they had it to do over again. Total sample size was a little over 850 respondents, 330 or so men and the rest are women. The result would seem to indicate that married Americans are very happy with their spouses. The results seem to show that 90% of married people are happy with their spouse. It breaks out to 95% of men are happy and 85% of women.
Nine out of ten (90%) married Americans would marry their spouse again, a percentage which has barely changed since 1995 (when it was 93%).
However, men were more likely to say they would marry their spouse again than their wives: 95% of men would marry their wives again, compared to 85% of women who said they would re-marry their husbands.
So the questions that immediately pop into my head were the following:
1) I’d like to see the numbers broken out by age cohort.
2) Break the numbers out by years married.
3) A bigger study following couples in various age cohorts through the life of the marriage.
I’m sure there are more ways to breakdown the information. The problem with this poll is that it could hide more information than it actually conveys.
