This week’s movie recommendation is the 1953 classic Shane, starring Alan Ladd and Jean Arthur.  Jack Palance isn’t too shabby in it either.

All kinds of stuff in here.  Shane is a gunfighter weary of fighting and he recognizes that the wild west has been tamed.  The need for gunfighters is on the wane.  Shane tries his hand at being a farmer, only to be dragged back into gunfighting.  There’s the triangular love story between the farmer who hires Shane, the farmer’s wife, and Shane.  Towards the end the farmer decides to set off to a sure death so his wife won’t be ashamed of him and think he’s a coward.  The only problem I have with the movie is that the kid is so damn annoying.
