STD Futurist award of the year goes to Whiskey (read his whole blog for the feminization of the media perspective) and PMAFT (the infamous post from October), both for their scathing critique of what was once a vibrant segment of literature, art and entertainment. Both held forth that science fiction was dead, and lo and behold it is!
Sy fy channel (having gone gay with its name change) is following with cooking shows and pro wrestling.
This is not a joke. Time of death for science fiction and fantasy is April 29, 2010 at 8 am pacific. Sy Fy channel wants to no longer be a niche channel and instead by one of the numerous empty channels that guys flip by wondering why with so many channels there is nothing interesting to watch.
If there are any men still watching that channel instead of playing video games, it is time for a complete boycott. Geeks, nerds, and beta boys unite!
Now for all of you out there that dream of mankind someday sailing among the stars . . . It. Is. Never. Going. To. Happen.
Those are male beta dreams. Only in a world where those dreams are valued could anything like that be pursued and maybe achieved.
Women do not dream of conquests in faraway lands. They do not dream of exploring in a hostile universe.
They may enjoy an exotic setting in a faraway world with floating cities and a dark alien prince with a mysterious past, or a heroic romance in the stars with a roguish smuggler that has a heart of gold, but those fantasies are relationship fantasies.
The death of science fiction takes with it all the technological dreams and the drive to make them real.
