People have been discussing the finale of Lost quite a bit. They believe the ending is ambiguous. I have punked a few people in the conversation by arguing with them that it is quite clear that they were all dead from the get go, that they were in limbo that once a character had resolved his/her issues they moved on died and that Jack had finally made it at the end.
To which they would bring up some time travel episode and I would respond back: Flash backs are common in shows dealing with death, the most common example coming from the play Our Town.
Back and forth people would go and I would finally say to them, “well I don’t really care. I never watched an episode.”
To which they would get indignant and tell me I had to watch them.
“The Hell with that”, I respond, “I’m not wasting my time watching a show about a bunch of dead people.”
People like great conspiracy mystery shows. There seems to be one going on all the time. No this isn’t a comment on Dave or the Reptile Alien that is trying to undermine us all. Inevitably though when all is revealed, almost always it is disappointing. (unless your viewing a M. Night movie and then when you realize the twist 15 minutes in to the movie, and you’re disappointed. Dude, I hope with your latest movie you have finally moved on from this formula).
It is sadly the same thing with women. They seem so bizarrely different than men and our society feeds the intellectual equivalent of Twinkies, Ho Hos, Ding Dongs (especially those), fruit pies, little Debbie Snack Cakes and about every form of caffeinated soda imaginable to a diabetic, with all its pretty lies that women are more moral, more empathetic, more understanding, move loving, more rainbows and butterflies.
That the huge disconnect between their behavior and these lies is blanketed over with the idea that “men are simple creatures.”
However, when you finally get an explanation that makes sense: Hypergamy, everything falls into place.
It is disappointing.
The Renfields and the Feminists hate this idea because it puts the lie to everything they do.
It undermines our society, not because it is reductionist, which is any easy dismissive term to use.
It undermines our society because the foundation of our culture is built up on so many lies that the truth pulls it away like sand.
Whatever comes after, let it be built on truth, no matter.
