Occasionally I see girls out wearing these:

pendant.jpg?w=350&h=350Or some version of it.  Each diamond represents a year anniversary and generally the diamonds get bigger as the pendant winds it way down to the cleavage of the wearer.

Ah, such sweet sentiments from the beta:  “how my love has grown for you over the years so that I have wasted even more money on rocks status symbols.”

Ah, but what if you see the pendant, yet there is no wedding ring?

What could it possibly mean?  Do women consciously or subconsciously send messages through their jewelry?

Well here’s the possibilities:

  1. She’s widowed and still has feelings for the ex, bad news for any man because you’re in for the “nothing compares to you” routine and you’re not the you in that phrase, the dead man is.  This does happen.  Why they wear the pendant but not the ring speaks to the subtle and self deceptiveness of the female mind.  She believes she’s ready for love, yet is still holding back, perhaps unbeknownst to herself.
  2. She’s single and just likes the way the jewelry looks . . . Ha ha ha, never mind, every woman knows what these things symbolize.
  3. She’s divorced and still has feelings for her ex . . . I’m killing me.  You can skip this one.
  4. She’s been in a LTR but isn’t married and the guy gave her the pendant.  No wait, never mind.  Any guy that feels like buying this kind of jewelry is going to have a ring on her finger.  Skip this one too.
  5. She’s having the ring cleaned or re-sized.  (I place this one in there for completeness sake)
  6. She is consciously advertising that she’s married and wants to cheat.  Each diamond representing a year of betrayal.  A ring says “off limits” (well it kind of did years ago).  No ring, just blends with the rest of the single ladies.  But the pendant with no ring is a signal: “I am married, and I’m looking for a Cad.”

Now from personal experience I have run into a number 1 on that list and several number 6s.

I love seeing the anniversary pendants.
