There is some expectation among that at some point men will have had enough.
And specifically the middle class.
That the shackles will be broken.
It’s not going to happen.
First a little bit of history.
Not sure if its taught anymore, because in a way it’s disheartening, and probably detracts from our current cultural narrative.
Before the civil war there was an abolitionist named John Brown.
He decided that he was going to start a slave revolt and he attempted to do so at Harper’s Ferry. You can read the Wikipedia entry if you like.
John Brown went in expecting that once they had an opportunity, the slaves would rise up and a revolt would spread.
It didn’t happen and he ended up getting hanged.
Likewise, when Lincoln made his emancipation proclamation, he was hoping to cause a revolt that would spread through the south, wrecking havoc behind the military lines of the enemy.
Again it didn’t happen.
Call it Learned Helplessness, or whatever phrase you want to use, but the reality is that although some men will see the truth and become free, Frederick Douglas for example, in most cases there is no obvious reward for revolting, and lots of consequences for it, especially for the “back bone” of the economy. Besides, most men cling to that most vile of sins: Hope.
The very virtues of the middle class: Living a decent, productive life, supporting a family, owning a house, living for the most part a quiet (respectful) life, taking care of your family, doing the right thing, putting in a good days work. All these one time common virtues that were so easily overlooked and are now dying are also the vices of the middle class.
Any man who has those things is going to try to protect it and they do so, as they have done so for decades, by bunkering down and hoping, as the darkness encroaches more and more, they try to be as bland and inoffensive, hoping that the storm will pass them by. And they will stay in that mode, until their backs are broken.
This is not to say that men won’t go John Galt more and more.
Which leads to what is really going to set things off.
The only way the people will rise up, will be an atrocity and it would have to be something on a scale that would shake the very world.
So who are the ones that are most likely to rise up in anger and violence?
The poor. The ones at the bottom, the ones that have their entitlements cut off (and tomorrow’s post will be on how the liberals have encouraged this violence through their “benevolence”) any revolution will start with them.
As Orwell pointed out: “If there is any hope for humanity, it is with the proles.”
