I have come to the conclusion that solicited advice is no more welcome than unsolicited advice. At least when the advice does not cater to their preconceived notions of what they want that advice to be.
I’ve known this for some time, but every once in a while it is good to remind myself.
It is also quite clear that the more violent or emotional is the reaction of the person asking for advice, the closer I am to hitting the mark in the unvarnished and unwanted truth department.
Whether that person ends up taking the advice given doesn’t matter. If things don’t go well, they will be sure to blame me. Better to throw the question right back at them then to provide the answer.
