In 2003, some Australian men came up with an idea for a charity fundraiser for men’s health issues, and thus was born “Movember,” a campaign in which guys grew moustaches to raise awareness. The idea was a bit of a joke at first – a good natured way to get some attention for the cause – but it worked pretty well, and today there are hundreds of thousands of participants worldwide bringing in millions of dollars in donations.

Now that the campaign has grown in both popularity and effectiveness, of course the feminists had to get involved to disparage it. They are doing so with their farcical “Decembrow” campaign, which is supposedly a feminist way to raise money for charities of their choice, such as abortion clinics and artificial insemination assistance for lesbians, but in reality it’s just a stunt and an attempt by the declining Feministing website to get some more attention by making fun of a men’s charity.

As Lori, the Feministing contributor who came up with the idea, puts it:

Last week, I announced the beginning of Decembrow, a month-long charity initiative for which I encouraged you to grow in your unibrow for the cause of your choice.

But what began as a somewhat simple, tongue-in-cheek response to “Movember” has begun to generate some serious buzz around the interwebs, with mentions on the Daily Caller, AtlanticWire, the Stir, and AOL News. And it seems everyone has something to say about Decembrow.

Given the huge disparities in funding between specifically female and specifically male health concerns (favoring the female, of course), you’d think the feminists would leave well enough alone. But no, they can’t help themselves: as they see it any dollar that goes to support men’s health is a dollar that doesn’t go straight into their hands, and even if they won’t come straight out and attack Movember, hey, at least they can ridicule it.

Fortunately, the guys who started Movember and most participants probably have no problem with laughing at themselves. That’s one of the great characteristics of men — we can generally take a joke at our expense, because we’re generous like that. And if we can turn that generosity toward helping our brothers out, so much the better.

So although it’s petty and mean-spirited of feminists to disparage an event that is providing some much needed support for research and treatment of men’s health issues, it’s actually encouraging that it worked so well that they feel the need to tear it down. So let the feminists eye the money Movember brought in with envy as they think of the hundreds of millions of abortions it could buy, and laugh at them.
