Obama bugged out of a press conference the other day, turning the podium over to Bill Clinton, because, as he put it, “I’ve been keeping the first lady waiting.” Bill Clinton adds “you don’t want to make her mad.”

I don’t know whether it was an excuse, but even if it was, it’s a pretty lousy one for the President of the United States. If he was serious, perhaps that busted lip he got the other day was from Michelle’s knuckles rather than some guy’s elbow — Barack Obama was noticeably absent from Michelle’s side over the ensuing couple days.
Whatever it was, it sure didn’t inspire confidence.
