Jeffrey Kodlowski, of Westland Michigan, and his wife had a dispute over whether she was having an affair, during which Mr. Kodlowski took and hid their cell phone so he could look at the numbers later. Naturally, the wife was angry about this, so she started calling the police. An officer spoke with both parties on the phone, and told Mr. Kodlowski to simply let her leave. There had been no physical altercation, and therefore no crime, so it was not a police matter. Nevertheless, Mrs. Kodlowski persisted until some officers arrived.
Despite the fact that Mr. Kodlowski had committed no crime, officers entered his house and demanded he hand over the phone. In the process they insulted him repeatedly, saying they understood why his wife would leave him, while his wife called him a “fucking asshole” in the background. Mr. Kodlowski complained a bit about what he saw as undue pressure, but didn’t do any more than that. Still, he refused to hand over the phone, and tried to go back to bed, but the cops wouldn’t let him without doing as his wife demanded. Goaded on by his wife, police escalated the situation until they could find an excuse to attack him, one saying “try and make me leave your house!” but all they had was that he accidentally brushed one officer’s sleeve while pointing to where his wallet was.
Apparently, that was enough. After the touching incident, right at around 6 minutes, the cop says “You know what? Take him. Fuck him.” After that they hit him and take him down, splitting open his scalp.
This is contemporary America for married men. There was no poor, beaten woman, but just an angry, cheating wife who wanted her cell phone to hide her affair. The cops served as her enforcers. A man who lives with a woman in the US has no constitutional rights. The police will enforce not only the right of a woman to cheat on her husband, but to maintain her “honor” while doing so.
