As Rebels clash with Kadafi’s loyalist troops and Nubian mercenaries, one can clearly discern the populist rage behind the fight to oust the unpopular Libyan leader. But what has been lost in recent reports is that one source of the discontent was a building resentment fueled by reports of the alpha-male lifestyle these Arab strongmen have been leading. Many have wives who decked themselves out in the finest bling, some have foreign concubines, and in the meanwhile young men are reduced to hawking knick knacks and produce on the street.
Assange’s Wikileaks provided much fodder for Arab dissidents, as lurid reports of Middle Eastern leaders’ love lives were leaked to the public. Kadafi reportedly has been carrying on with a Ukrainian nurse described as a “voluptuous blonde.” Recent information from Russia indicates that his mistress fled last week as Kadafi’s rule and government have come under siege.
Perhaps most relevant to readers of The Spearhead is that a clique of Arab leaders’ wives heavily involved in the Arab Women’s Organization, which promotes the Western brand of female “empowerment,” have acquired a reputation as corrupt, arrogant women who serve themselves first.
Founded by Suzanne Mubarak, wife of the recently ousted Hosnia Mubarak, the organization was heavily promoted by Leila Ben Ali, wife of recently deposed Tunisian President Ben Ali. Another wife who is under scrutiny is Queen Rania of Jordan, King Abdullah’s wife. The glamorous 40-year-old has appeared on Oprah and touts herself as a supporter of Palestinian rights, but she has come under fire for seizing land for family members.
Interestingly, it seems that a number of UN and EU grants have helped fund the activities of the AWO, which should prompt Americans and Europeans to question whether our money is being used to drape gold and diamonds on the necks and wrists of women connected to deeply unpopular Middle East strongmen.
