My wife and I were having dinner with our best friends tonight to celebrate a recent event that is something of a milestone for me. After a while the husband looked over at me and said, “Well, we had a bad day today.”

…waiting for the other shoe to drop…

“[Insert name of eldest daughter here] is pregnant.”

Yikes.

It’s not like she didn’t know better. She’s 18 and her bad-boy boyfriend is 21. She’s in high school and he lives with his parents and has an exciting and lucrative career in the fast food industry: I’m sure he’s going to go far.

This has “Train wreck” written all over it.

She’s a textbook example of hypergamy. I’ve never seen a girl who had a case this extreme. She’s passably attractive and I personally know two nice young men who would have thrown themselves in front of a speeding train for a shot at her. The parents kept hoping that she would pair off with one of them. I told them it wouldn’t happen, and I told them why it wouldn’t happen.

She spent a lot of time with the nice guys doing innocuous group activities like shopping and going to the movies. They were always there to keep her company and sympathize with her when some guy she was dating treated her like crap.

Not interested. Not even a little.

Is anyone here surprised by that?

Anyone?

The weird thing is that I gave her parents a lengthy explanation of female hypergamy about two months ago to help them understand their daughter’s seemingly irrational behavior in going for losers while she put the nice guys into the “friend” basket.

Sometimes I HATE it when I’m right.

So what can we learn from this sordid little mess that plays out thousands of times a week all around us?

1) The nice, attentive, beta guys didn’t get the girl, and they’re infinitely better off for it.

2) The bad-boy alpha with “game” is probably screwed for life, and will have little say in how this plays out, although he will be held legally responsible.

3) The parents may well end up raising their daughter’s bastard for quite a while, to the detriment of their other children.

4) Her life is irreparably changed, and not for the better.

5) Unless she gives the kid up for adoption it’s probably screwed as well.

6) She’s going to end up with a beta sooner or later – the only questions are “How long until she snags one?”, “How much human wreckage will she cause in the meantime?” and “How long before she ruins his life too?”

This is what happens when 50 years of feminism unshackles unrestrained sexuality from social opprobrium.

Ironically, the only people who come out ahead are the betas who dodged that bullet, although it’s likely to be a while before they appreciate that fact.
