Most of the arguments and articles about the dangers of marriage and the horrors of divorce seem to assume that the man is the primary breadwinner, and that the woman lives in his house.

But what if we stopped playing according to traditional norms and started taking advantage of the new rules? What if one was to marry a breadwinning wife? Instead of spending most of your time on a job, you could spend most of your time on other pursuits – hobbies, research on men’s issues or anything else of interest, raising your kids or even just lounging on the couch once in a while.

The potential legal and social benefits are enormous. Divorce is no longer a threat, for one thing. At worst, you lose nothing and the ex loses nothing. At best, you stand to gain half of everything she owns. This will result in a more equitable distribution of power in the relationship. Instead of having to put up with a wifes excessive nagging and being forced to pander to her needs at economic gunpoint, a man can simply decide that she is out of line and leave. This will help keep her behavior acceptable, and remove any fear that a married man might have under more traditional roles. And as primary caretaker, men would be more likely to get primary custody than they are now.

Furthermore – and this is what i consider the most important part – it would put men back in the role as teachers to their children.
Men have always had a teaching role in society, from the earliest times as hunters and warriors to more recent times in the form of apprenticeships and the early educational system. We would be able to turn our daughters into good women, our boys into good men, and teach both to think.

There is no way to legally fight this without dropping the charade and openly making blatant anti-male laws. If enough men do this, things may eventually change for the better. But whatever change comes of this – or doesn’t – at least we won’t have to live in fear.
