The site’s size and traffic have grown to the point where ordinary methods to keep it responding as it’s supposed to aren’t really doing the job any longer. So, I’ve been spending the day tinkering around with the caching software in an effort to keep it running. Seeing one’s RAM use drop precipitously in conjunction with the establishment of a smooth, functional cache is a thing of beauty.
For others out there in the androsphere who host their own sites, I would recommend looking into Xcache with W3 Total Cache as an alternative to dumping Apache and running nginx or Lighttpd, although I’ve heard that running it with nginx works very well if you care to configure the site in that manner.
Yeah, it’s a pain, but it’s nice to see that it’s become such a big resource. After putting a lot of work into something over a long time, when you finally step back and take a look, it’s a bit humbling how daily effort can build something so large. Now, I suppose it’s time to start thinking about what more to do with all that content.
