It’s pretty obvious that men’s issues are not going to determine the outcome of our national election. The hostility toward men in my own local elections is overwhelming, and at this point I don’t think there’s much sense in fighting it. If politicians win on an anti-male platform, then we can let them defend their policies nationally. Frankly, amongst the major voting blocks, family-age divorced fathers and single men are insignificant right now anyway, but we’ll have more leeway to respond than the feminists, who have received far more than their fair share of political support.

I’m sure single mothers and and their supporters – mainly lesbians and family law attorneys – have been given disproportionate attention, as have gay marriage proponents, but that’s something we’ll deal with after the candidates take office.

For now, I think we should let them tell us where they stand, and act on it later. I think we men ought to sit back and watch. When George Wallace and other defenders of the status quo in the South made the elections in the late 60s and early 70s about restoring white supremacy, they won a pyrrhic victory that was rolled back within less than 15 years. I’m fairly sure that the trajectory of feminism will take a similar course, because the demonization and hysteria is along pretty much the same lines.

Not to say that I don’t sympathize with Southern whites on any level (they do deserve self-determination as much as anyone else), but rather that they represented a special interest that ran counter to the national interest at the time, and politically they lost big time in the long run. So, although it’s painful to see how effectively decent men are being demonized in the current campaign, I’m pretty sure that the single mothers by choice, adulteresses and various other female supremacists are going to lose their moral authority in short order, no matter who wins.

So don’t stress too much about the election — things are going to get better either way. In the meanwhile, just kick back and watch, and do what your conscience dictates.

Enjoy the show!
