Reader jvangeld shared this article from Pocket: Testing My Fertility at the End of My World (2023/10/2), and commented,
“This article is popping up in my feed. It’s all about women convincing themselves that they are good with their current reality. That they don’t regret the years they wasted on their careers.”
If it’s popping up in feeds, then it is obviously being promoted, either by an algorithm or by The Keepers of the Internet. IOW, it is part of the worldly narrative.
I noticed that jvangeld left this comment about 6 weeks after the article was published, which is about the time it takes for the MGM overseers to estimate how well an article has been received, and if it is not as popular as desired, then it gets placed into the auto-feed mill.
This particular story, authored by Rachel Hislop, is a catharsis aimed at post-carousel riders lost in confusion over where their best years went.
The tagline reads,
“The pandemic robbed Millennial women of peak years of fertility. The least we deserve is a space to process the grief — and reimagine what can come next.”
Translation: The pandemic robbed Millennial women of ~2 peak years of hook-ups and rutting.
Now doth she say “the pandemic” hath ‘robbed’ her of her fertility?
“I thought I had time. Who doesn’t? We always think we have more of this finite resource. But after being robbed of years by the pandemic, an all-consuming career, and dead-end relationships, time has become more of a novelty.”
Notice how she blames “the pandemic” and her “career” as a convenient excuse for her own poor decisions, rather than herself for prioritizing career and kicking marriage and kids(?) down the road.
“The realization struck me last May, on the Mother’s Day just after my 34th birthday.”
She’s 34! That means she was past 30 when C0v!d hit. What fertility?!? The worst person you can lie to is yourself. She can’t face what’s ahead of her, and she knows it.
“…the man I recently spent four years in a relationship with was expecting twins — my second ex to follow our relationship with not one but two babies.”
There’s a lot of background information that she is omitting here, hinted at with statements like, “four years in a relationship”, and “second ex to follow our relationship with [having children]”. How many other exes were there, and how long was she diddling around before she “married”?
“I was spiraling about the concept of motherhood. How did this time come so fast? I wasn’t ready to think about wanting kids. I thought more frequently about external factors: our warming earth, rising sea levels, simultaneous global pandemics, war, racial inequality, stripped reproductive rights, and the general feelings of unease about the state of the world. How could I be ready to commit another life to this?”
Her mind was totally preoccupied with the worldly issues and concerns promulgated by The Narrative™ — intentionally designed by lower powers to serve as a distraction from the most important issues of life. Yet, the primal call of procreation hangs heavy on her hips.
“I laughed at the irony and then felt a sharp pang of sadness at the reality. Here I was, 34, counting eggs as the news tells of a warming globe, AI takeovers, an unstable economy. But my mind stayed trained on a single question. What about the life I once held so tightly in my fist? The one with babies and marriage and success I thought I would get?”
Buuut… she obviously didn’t hold that dream as tightly in her fistula as she believes. Or maybe she held it too tightly, and filtered out all the good men who didn’t stack up or step up to her gynormous dreams.
BERLIN, GERMANY — OCTOBER 13, 2023: Rachel Hislop attends the Mozilla RISE 25 Awards at Alte Muenze on October 13, 2023 in Berlin, Germany. (Photo by Tristar Media/Getty Images) Note her statements in bold above. In short, she’s saying, “How did this happen?” It is the reminiscent past tense of “It just happened!” — something women often say when confronted about their sexual liaisons, revealing an obvious lack of Agency, as well as the usual Autopilot and Solipsism.
Anyway, we’re looking at a carousel rider. We already know how the story ends for them.
We’ll see more and moar of this in the coming years as increasing numbers of women age out of the carousel and join the vast swelling ranks of childless Karens and Cat Ladies.
