I have a lot of time during the day. A lot. I’m a good multi-tasker, so I often skim the web while I’m feeding a baby, or watching to make sure the big one doesn’t steal toys from the little ones, or in between loads of laundry. Time is definitely a scarcer commodity these days with 3 little ones under 3, but I can definitely swing at least a few broken-up hours on the iPad on a good day.
I’ve been using some of that time to browse for ways to save money. I’ve signed up for every Groupon/Living Social/Sweet Jack type of service out there, as well as Freecycle, so I usually end up with an inbox that takes a while to comb through in the morning. It’s usually a lot of crap, but every now and then, I find a gem.
This week, I noticed a pretty sweet deal, $25 for $50 worth of fondue. We both love cheese, this is a no-brainer! I also had a $15 off coupon from Groupon for being a new user, so I scooped up the deal for $10. Score.
The entire meal ended up being $85 before the groupon, which is way fancier than we’re used to, but damn, that was a good 3-course meal. Mr. RedPill complimented me innumerable times for finding the deal, and for all the deal finding I do (We had a rather cheap sushi date a few weeks ago too). I’ve been selling some clutter in our house on Craigslist as well, so that’s helping ever-so-slightly in the income department.
I go through periods, as a Stay At Home Mom, where I feel as if I’m not doing enough. Watching this many kids is SUCH a full-time job, but I still get the insane itch to start a stay-at-home business, or find a work-from-home job, but in the end, I know I couldn’t cut it right now. So finding us cheap dates will have to do, and it makes Mr. RedPill crazy happy. He doesn’t mind saving money with cloth diapers either (really, they’re not bad these days!), and I’m happy to make baby food so we don’t have to buy the over processed expensive stuff. I’m also looking into how to mill our own flour out of whole wheat for sandwich bread, and perhaps making yogurt. Might not save much, but it’ll be a few bucks, and that’s better than nothing.
It might not help in the attraction department, but I think it’s some darn good Girl Beta.
edit: a few days after writing this, found some cheap oil changes + air conditioning and radiator servicing. Gonna try to sell an old guitar amp from our “I’m gonna be badass and be in a band” phase today too. Rock on.
