I don’t consider myself part of the Manosphere, obviously. I’m not a man. But I’m also a long, long way away from the Femisphere, the HuffPo Harpies and the Jezebel Carousel. I think I’d consider this blog Manosphere Adjacent. Red Pill Feminine, perhaps.
There’s a discussion happening on the MMSL boards about whether women should participate in the discussions (not by Athol, he’s made it clear that First Officer’s are welcome). I can understand that perspective. Long gone are the days of men-only clubs, a safe haven where they could smoke a cigar, have a stiff drink, and shoot the shit, as we say in the South. A place to escape the view of the ladies, where men could be themselves. Because men and women do behave differently around each other; guarding ourselves, peacocking, etc. Women have plenty of women-only activities and places because men don’t care to participate. Guys don’t need women to know that they enjoy going to the spa, they don’t want to workout at Curves, they don’t want to take a quilting class. Men have to deal with women trying to prove themselves in male activities in the feminist sense, “I can do whatever you can, na nanny boo boo!” and there will always be organizations like the ACLU there to enforce it legally. It kinda sucks. (Not that the ACLU doesn’t do a lot of good elsewhere, but I digress.)
On the other hand, red pill ladies have their share of issues to contend with as well, and need somewhere to talk. I’m thankful for the First Officer’s Lounge over there, it’s nice to talk to like-minded ladies. And every now and then, some female perspective on things helps. Having some insight into the hamster, I can better interpret other hamsters somewhat. And while I do think some of the FO’s fall into the “Elusive Wife” category, certainly not all do, as is evidenced by the constant calls for help, “How can I help him be more alpha?”, “What can I do to make myself more desirable for him?”, “How can I save my marriage after being so horrible to him for so long?” God knows I have my share of issues, some of which I’m not brave enough to put down in writing yet.
So far, everything seems self policing. When a fellow First Officer starts spouting hamstery nonsense, she’s called out pretty quickly. Same with the guys, really. But I’ve started to post a little less, at the forums and on various Manosphere blogs. I don’t want to cloud the place with estrogen. I want guys to be able to find good info and not worry about what the ladies might think. And this comment stuck out to me:
Most of the men are because they have to much beta in their marriage. I get the impression this is because the put their wife on a pedestal, and I see them putting the ladies here on a pedestal as well.
At first, I disagreed and got slightly annoyed, but the more I considered it, the more I think there’s some truth to it. I know most of the ladies mean well, and it’s not happening consciously, but this seems a natural consequence. Take a group of struggling natural betas and put them in the midst of women, and beta supplication happens, in this case in text form. It’s kind of a fascinating case study, in a way.
I’d already started cutting my posting down a bit, but I probably will more now, keeping this in mind. My Captain posts there as well, and I’ve let him know that if he needs me to stop so he can have a place to vent, I’ll delete the bookmark and never visit it again. But I do like to be the cheerleader for guys who have breakthroughs with their wives… It just makes me too happy to hear that yet another has been brought closer to The Real “Happily Ever After”.
