I fixed the links in yesterday’s link post. Sorry about that.
I woke up early to make Cap breakfast before he leaves for work, babies fell back to sleep as he’s leaving, so I have a few hours to kill alone with my coffee… And my mind is a total blank as to what to write. So it goes.
Sometimes I think I want this blog to have some structure, and sometimes I want it to be my own personal rantspace. I know it can be both, and I should just let it be organic. You’d think with as hippy-dippy as I can be at times, this would be ok with me. I’m such a weird mix of go-with-the-flow and perfectionist. I argue with myself. I’m shy and demure in person, but a total freak in my own head. I’m surprised my guy has stuck around this long. There’s something to be said for stubbornness.
I’m finding that red pill ideas work beautifully with parenting. The 2 year old has taken to DEMANDING thing. “I NEED a cup of milk”, “I NEED to watch Fraggles” (Fraggle Rock is big in our house, thanks Netflix!), etc etc. The last few days, all I have to do is look at her without saying a word, and she cows and changes it to “Please can I have…” which is nice. “I can’t hear you when you aren’t being nice” is effective as well. I know that she’s a very well behaved and tame 2 year old, and I’m not sure how much of that is parenting and how much is just her nature, but it’s working nonetheless. She’s a smart kid. I dread teenagerhood. Though I guess knowing of the hamster and knowing ways to shut it down will help immensely. There’s a baby hamster in there already, and I hates it. HATES IT.
I’m slightly intimidated at the idea of raising 2 boys. Ok not slightly, I’m way intimidated. I didn’t have brothers. I didn’t even have male cousins, so I don’t even know how to raise them the wrong way, let alone the right way. I’m a blank slate. I want to raise them to be strong, independent, and awesome. There’s a ton of time to do that… They can’t even properly crawl yet. But the challenges are on my mind. I can already see their little personalities, and how different they are. One is fearless, outgoing, bull-headed, loud and very physical, the other is reserved, calculating, quiet, and patient. It seems, so far, that their demeanor as babies doesn’t change a whole lot as they get older (our girl hasn’t changed personality much as she’s gotten a few years older anyway), so I think that’s what I’ll be working with.
Funny thing I’ve discovered about the male gender through having boy babies: Men become obsessed with their penises at approximately 6 months old. Seriously, I can’t keep D’s hand off his. Diaper off? TIME TO PLAY WITH THE JUNK!
