I pulled out the old iron yesterday, a thing that’s older than our marriage, and hasn’t been used since I left the Army 8 years ago. When I plugged it in, it smoked from all the burnt dust.

While my dad and stepmom were here, stepmom insisted on ironing my husband’s work shirts. She’s a bit of a perfectionist (well, probably OCD), so she didn’t mind getting his done while she was taking care of her own and sometimes my dad’s. Now that they’re gone, I feel obligated to continue, because it would be pretty crappy if he just started showing up to work looking like a crumpled paper bag.

I also kind of wanted to, because it’s a nice girl beta thing to do. It’s not like I don’t have experience… Like I said, Army. Many, many hours spent starching and ironing my uniforms. Plus, he can brag to his male coworkers that his wife has mad homemaking skillz, lol.

It took me a few shirts to get the hang of it, but I’m starting to remember. But dress shirts are quite different from Battle Dress Uniforms. Pleats, tiny buttons, weirdly shaped pockets… I’m sure I missed some spots. But I’ll get better. I need to have a designated ironing night during the week, I think. Perhaps Monday night is a good night. I find that if I schedule things, I’m more likely to get it done, versus just talking about it and procrastinating like a mofo.

Next girl beta skill to work on: sewing and mending.
