Sunshine Mary wrote a while ago on modern women having filthy mouths. I thought about this for a while… To be honest, it hadn’t occurred to me NOT to curse (aside from in front of the kids, of course).
So, while I originally agreed with alcesti that women have dirtier minds than men, after reading and thinking about Rollo’s essay, now I don’t think this is so. What women have is dirtier mouths because we are trying to ape men’s stronger sex drives. We do this both because women truly are envious of men’s natural strength and sex drives and also because, thanks to nearly three generations of feminism, we have been taught to hate the feminine and to ape false characterizations of the masculine. And because we can never be truly happy denying our own nature, this is why you see so many unhappy women and enraged feminists spewing four-letter diatribes.
I think that I didn’t really start cursing very much till I was in the military. There was a bit of “being one of the guys” involved in my time in… I was generally the only female in the small detachments of soldiers I belonged to, and cursing, drinking, and acting generally crude was just how it was. This was way before I started wearing makeup and dressing in anything but jeans and t-shirts except when we went out to clubs, but even then it wasn’t very dressy feminine. I wasn’t going to pick up guys, I was going to hang out with my battle buddies and be a wing woman for them. I think I was pretty good at it. See a girl, start talking to her for a while, “Oh, I have a friend you would love! He’s right over there…”
Another facet of this was that I wanted to make the guys comfortable. Anytime I showed up to a new place, there was some tension… Would I be one of those women that called sexual harassment at every word uttered at her? Yes, it happens in the Army that often. A new woman showing up to her duty station could totally ruin morale by being an overly sensitive control freak, and there’s not a damn thing the men can do about it. So by showing that I was “one of the guys”, I could assure them that I wasn’t that kind of woman. (Oh, I could go on a rant about the Army’s “equal opportunity” bullshit. Perhaps another time.)
So that’s where my habit came from. Never really grew out of it.
After reading SSM’s entry, and seeing it mentioned in other parts of the Manosphere, I asked Captain M if my cursing was a turn-off, and if he wanted me to stop. His reply was that he didn’t mind at all… He considers a curse word to be like a spice; A little enhances flavor, but a lot will ruin a meal.
I’m trying to cut back further, to be honest, but I still use a good f bomb for comedy or emotion. And of course for dirty talk…. Captain M’s got a thing for dirty talk.
I agree with SSM that modern women, particularly feminists, think it fine to absolutely abuse the English language. It’s impossible to read feminists blogs without getting beaten about the face and shoulders with language worse than I ever heard while I was in the military.
I’d advise just about any lady to knock it off, unless their guy has a thing for it. Ultimately, it detracts from a gal’s femininity.
