Yeah, not a lot of updates from me lately. We’ve been in sort of a lull at our house… I’m getting burnt out on the kids, even Captain M is getting burnt out on the kids, as he had to retreat to the bedroom to chill out yesterday after our troublemaker boy did something really freaking gross.
We’re happy, but there’s definitely some routine happening. On workout days (Mon, Wed, Fri), we see each other for about 30 minutes before we go to bed. I leave when he gets home at 6pm-ish to go to the gym and maybe run an errand if needed, get back around 8-ish, he starts his body weight workout at home at 8pm, gets done at 9:30, we shower and collapse in bed. Sometimes we have enough energy for some fooling around, but it’s usually of the Pizza variety. The obvious answer is for me to go to the gym at the same time he’s working out, but I know that if I eat dinner first and sit around till all the kids are in bed, I won’t go because I’ll be too tired. I tried the post-8pm thing for a while, and it didn’t work out. And I’m amped after a workout… I have to have some wind-down time before I can get to sleep.
On non-workout days (Tues, Thr), we have enough time after the kids go to bed to watch an episode of whatever thrilling show we’re watching and talk a little. We caught up on Game of Thrones (so much red pill), and we’ve started Fringe, though I find the plot holes maddening. There may be some fooling around before or after that’s pretty nice, varying from Chinese to Continental. I can’t complain about the quality. Rawr.
But frequency has dropped off. When we do get together, it’s wonderful, it just hasn’t been priority for either of us, I think. I dunno how he feels about it. I know he’s been really busy and a bit stressed at work.
Our date nights have dropped to maybe once a month, which I find maddening, but not much can be done about that. He usually kicks me out for a little while on the weekends so I can get my INTJ alone time, which is very nice. Church and grocery shopping on Sunday.
My days with the kids and house are also incredibly repetitive. It’s hard not to be.
Wash, rinse, repeat.
I just sort of feel my brain going mushy from the routine and lack of mental stimulation. Reading would help, but my attention span has gotten so short I’m starting to wonder about adult ADD. I just find my eyes starting glaze over after a paragraph or two, and it’s hard to start reading then be interrupted for the various things that pop up during the day. So I haven’t read many blogs lately either, just stuck to the MMSL forums a bit, something I can do in short chunks of time on my phone.
Things really aren’t terrible… I’m feeling a lot better than I have in previous years. Just… Bored?
It’s only a phase, it’s only a phase…
Note: I don’t link that to say I am or was thinking of leaving, of course, it’s just a brilliant piece of writing that’s a good reminder that this is temporary, because Ian is a genius.
A lot of people have given me some great suggestions on how to get out of the slump, but I’m not really sure how to fit them into my day. I feel like the only way to start a new hobby is to cut into either my gym time, my Captain M time, or my sleep time, and I’m not willing to give up any. I feel like absolute crap when I miss a single day of my workout, let alone cutting it out more. I’m desperately clinging to the time I have with CM, because I can’t get enough of it right now. I miss him desperately. I’m already not sleeping enough, so no to that.
We’re looking into a gym that has child care, but I’m not sure it’d be worth it to break my current contract to start a new one, because I don’t know how often I’d actually get around to taking them out during the day. Taking them in and out of that van in 100+ degree heat is draining as hell. I kniw myself, I’ll avoid it. Excuses excuses, I know. This will probably be part of the solution, if only to give us more options on the weekend. Getting in and out of the van won’t be such a big deal in about 6 months when the boys can do more for themselves. They just so damn heavy. Way bigger than our girl was at that age. They’re little boulders. They’re eating almost as much as we do for dinner. It’s crazy. But I digress.
I know it’ll slack up eventually. Just gotta keep telling myself that. Working out is helping me immensely. It’s helped my mood, energy level, and self esteem greatly. I end up physically tired, but for a long time I was even more exhausted from being lazy and depressed.
I’m at a bit of a body fat plateau, so I really need to clamp down on what I’m eating during the day. I started taking CLA supplements to see if it helps me kick through it. Anyone else tried them and had results?
Going back to the subject of dates, our last one was to the natural science museum and an outdoor showing of the original Tron. It was awesome, and it’s kind of amazing how much that movie has held up over time. It’s still pretty great. We are such geeks. Just wish we’d had more time, we ended up having to leave before the movie was over because it started a little late. I also wish we’d had time for some making out in the car.
I’ve got some ideas for posts thanks to Danny, pertaining to women in the military and my experience with it. Just need to sit down and make it happen.
So how about that Stanley Cup Final, eh? Another lesson to never, ever leave a game early…. You never know what might happen in the last couple of minutes. And I’m happy with the draft yesterday, we got a great first round pick that’ll likely end up on the roster next year. Looking forward to it. And looking forward to being out of the Pacific Division, hooray for CST starting times!!
