I submit that the supposed “best actress curse” is nothing more than the realization of these women’s hypergamous instincts. Her social value just went way up, so she’s decided it’s time to trade up for a better model husband. Normally this wouldn’t work with men, since we honestly are so heavily looks focused. But when you live in a fantasy world like Hollywood where every woman is a 9 or a 10, even the 10s need something to differentiate themselves. Also, no woman wants to be significantly higher status than her husband – and a Best Actress win is one of the quickest ways to make that leap.
Case in point: you can’t convince me that Jesse James only just now started cheating on Sandra Bullock. It’s been going on for a while. She just didn’t want (or more likely, didn’t have the ability) to trade up until now.
Call me an asshole, but I have little sympathy for these women. To be fair, I have little sympathy for their husbands, either.
