Hope is an addiction. It is not a virtue. It is not a good thing, it is in fact the very opposite. It is a bad thing. A weakness.
When people speak of hope they are speaking the language of defeatism. People that speak of hope will deny this, but I ask quite clearly what is it they speak of when they talk about hope?
A person that clings to hope has given up action and traded it for a mirage. “I hope things turn out right” or “I hope God (insert police, Dad, Obama) saves me,” “All I have is hope” or “I look to the future with hope.”
What do all these statements have in common? They are passive. They are supplanting action, for words, ideas exchanged for wishful thinking.
Hope is a four letter word for a reason. It is something that is spoon fed to people by our politicians, or religious leaders, by people that prefer the words over actions, by people that do not want individuals to be able to act for themselves, that are in fact afraid of people that accept the consequences for their actions, that do not look to another to rescue them for the consequences of what they have done.
Anyone that uses the word hope is a pusher of the worst sort of drug. The type of drug that people need to be weaned off of. The most powerful of addictions, most people can’t get off of hope. They cling to it, like it was their teddy bear. They long for it, like a heroin addict longs for the next fix.
When someone “offers you hope” what exactly have they given you?
A plan of action? No. The skills to overcome your obstacle? No. The wisdom to see through the thicket of lies to the right answer? No.
What they have offered is self-defeatism. They have offered each person that cares to try and grasp hope the idea that they cannot help themselves. That they must depend on another, whether it is God, or the man offering the hope, they are offering dependence and lack of self volition in exchange for feeling good and optimism, whether founded in reality or not.
If things are bad, one should not hope that they get better. One needs to figure what needs to be done and then act accordingly. There is no hope, just as there is no try. There is do, or do not do. Hope is the default choice of people that do not want to do.
Instead of sitting there “hoping” she’ll notice you or realize how great you are, go out and seduce her. If it fails, it is time to move on.
Instead of worrying about the economy, be prepared for if it fails. What do you need to do to protect yourself? What can you do in the event of a catastrophe. If the answer is: Nothing. You need to change.
Get a gun. Learn how to use it. Get a concealed carry permit. Or would you prefer to be one of those people hiding in a closet hoping the police find you first?
Save yourself, don’t hope that someone else will.
That’s the difference between heroes (and villains) and ordinary people. Ordinary people hope.
