Yeah, I stole that line from Dr. Strangelove, so sue me. Here’s an article from the Guardian by Paul Lewis about how the UK police are planning on using military spy drones to fight crime. Maybe that will work better than all the ubiquitous CCTV’s and gatsos they seem to have.
Police in the UK are planning to use unmanned spy drones, controversially deployed in Afghanistan, for the ”routine” monitoring of antisocial motorists, protesters, agricultural thieves and fly-tippers, in a significant expansion of covert state surveillance.
Lovely phrase that, covert state surveillance, because you know, all you citizens are criminals, you just don’t know it…yet.
…police claims that the technology will be used for maritime surveillance fall well short of their intended use – which could span a range of police activity – and that officers have talked about selling the surveillance data to private companies.
