Was out the other night and a guy comes up to me and says, “Hey, I know you!”
I don’t know the guy. Never met him before in my life. “You do?”
“Oh yeah, you were hired to consult on a project where I work. You were a complete asshole!”
“Well, I can’t argue with the last part of that statement.”
“Oh yeah, most people try to get along, but not you, you were like this is the way things need to be, and you were right, but you pissed people off. God, I hated you.”
At this point I’m wondering where this is heading.
“Hmm.” I say noncommittally.
“Dude, you should come work full time where I do. We have a couple openings. It would shake things up.”
“Never gave it any thought.”
“You should, you probably make more money, but the benefits are great and its stable.”
“I’ll think about it”
“Do.” He says eagerly. What are you drinking?”
“Whatever you are.” I answer. He’s got a beer in his hand, “Just as long as it’s not that foreign crap called Budweiser.”
The guy laughs and buys me a beer.
“I have some friends I want you to meet.”
“Sure.”
“This is great. I don’t think I’ve met a bigger prick, they’re going to love you.” We head over.
I didn’t buy a single drink that night.
