Cuervo that is.

I love reading all the gold fanatics, it amuses me to see people hording the stuff, or trying to hoard it, thinking teh will haz teh monies, when the shit hits the fan.

Never mind that gold never keeps up with inflation (or it would be $4000 an ounce or more right now) or that the givernment (like anything else) can take it from you at a moments notice.

That is one of the unsettling things that you realize in these times.

It is the dark side of the buddhist lesson of the world being transitory.  Trying to hold on to things is often an effort in futility.  Anything can be taken from you.

That, perhaps, is a post for a different day.

Back to fool’s gold (and there is the secret, it’s all fool’s gold).

Let say you have a bunch of gold and the fiat money collapses.  (and you actually have to gold in hand, not some paper that says you have gold which is in of itself worthless)

Now what?

Where you going to spend it?

Trade with it?

Go right ahead, but if you’re trading, what good does the gold do the person trading for it?

You can’t eat it, drink it, wear it, keep yourself warm with it.  You have to find someone else that wants it.

I have a much simpler plan.

Stock up on fifths of alcohol.

I guarantee booze will be worth its weight in gold if there’s a fiat monetary collapse.

Men will whore out their wives for a fifth in those situations (it will be like paradise for Devil’s Advocate if he stocks up).

You can’t legally have a still in this country, but you can stock up.

Its money better spent than on gold, and cheaper . . . for the moment.

You never go wrong with vices.  Black markets often use things that feed vices as currency.

I wish I owned a micro brewery, simply because I would have the coin of the realm. . .

Assuming I could hold on to it.
