I want you to think about something for a moment.  Which is easier, being an asshole or being cocky/funny?  Wait for a second and actually ponder this one.  Everyone likes to think they have an excellent sense of humor.  Most like to believe they can be funny too.  We all have our moments when the stars align and we actually have a witty rejoinder or an amusing observation, but most of us aren’t able to turn it on and keep it on, so to speak.  Only the most socially inept are completely incapable of being funny.  I pity those fools.

Don’t be the guy who makes obscure references to japanese anime, science fiction, or heaven forbid some sort of fantasy role playing game.  Likewise, being a literary whit, while admirable, isn’t going to get you anywhere with the ladies unless they were English lit majors (and lets face it most of those aren’t worth a double take much less a single look).

It boils down to knowing your audience.  For cocky/funny to be effective it’s gotta be in the moment and riffing off of something your target has said.  She says she’s from xyz, you act surprised and say, ‘I hear girls from xyz eat their boogers.’  (Can’t remember the PUA who wrote about that routine, but it was excellent).  Stupid jokes like the booger one are good.  If she laughs at something that meaningless, you can take it as a sign she’s into you.  Say something you think is brilliant and get a blank face and you are rapidly approaching the blow out zone.  So, when in doubt, be aloof and indifferent, be an asshole.
