There are some that believe that giving people a free ride is the way to go economically.

No matter how fancy you dress the idea up, it really boils down to this kind of thinking.

We have this going on right now, its called welfare and it is pulling our society down.

The single worst thing a society can do is give people free stuff, because inevitably one of two things happens.  People either want more free stuff (see nationalized health care) or if you can somehow keep the amount of free stuff to a minimum, the people getting free stuff breed like rabbits, while the productive members of the society don’t.

The basic biological functions of people are eating, sleeping, finding a place that’s relatively safe to sleep and screwing.  If people don’t have to spend time on the first three, they will focus all their energy on the last one, which is why we have welfare queens with multiple children while the people that are productive don’t have many children because they are spending all their time working.  (this would be less of a problem if women in general were stay at home moms and there was no birth control, abortion or anything else so the working stiffs would be producing a pile of children too).

Inevitably, no matter how much resources the productive members produce, the nonproductive members are going to absorb more and more resources either because they demand it, or they reproduce to eat it all.

The productive members of society eventually are going to see that their labors are for naught and quit.  There is no point in working if you are penalized for it.  We are almost at that point in the west.  Going John Galt is becoming more attractive each year.  Why work for a group that hates you for it?

Psychologically, people resent the people that give them free things.  They do not appreciate it, they do not honor it.  They resent it, they hate it.  Being given free stuff takes away their dignity and on some level they know it.

Among animals, when food is plentiful the animals reproduce until they are eating everything at which point either predators grow in number and cull the animal, or they out eat the food source and begin to starve, either way significant numbers are cut back and then the food source becomes restored and the cycle repeats itself.

The idea that nature remains in a state of “balance” is erroneous, it is in a constant state of flux with various checks that occur to control populations and when I mean checks, I mean various ways nature kills off excess population:  Starvation, diesease, predation.

An example:  The Sea Lions off the California coast.  Once they became protected, their population exploded.  What happened in nature?  The Shark population exploded too.

The greatest act of hubris that people have is that they do not think they are animals or that the rules do not apply to them.  If people get free food like we are doing, they will breed, like they are doing.  Since we have eliminated predators, and we have eliminated most disease, the reality is at some point the freeloaders will weigh down the system and there will be massive poverty and starvation.

There is a reason the taxes are so burdensome already and that is because the productive members are carrying the nonproductive ones.  This can not last forever.

Now as usual, there are people that will cry “but what about the children.”  Let me blunt, the responsibility for the children is the parents.  Not society.  It is the path of tyranny to use children this way.

“The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.” – Adolf Hitler

I will go further, inevitably all the children will suffer when this system collapses, they will suffer poverty, starvation, anarchy, violence and live in ignorance.  We doom entire generations by being soft at the present.

If you really want society to work, you have to eliminate the safety net of government.

This is not to say there should not be a safety net, but it should go back to where it was traditionally: The churches and other religious groups.  The single most foolish thing that the religious did was undermine themselves by pushing socialism and welfare.  It undermined the need for the churches.

If you want to restore some semblance of morality to the culture, then the welfare state must end and the safety net must be resumed by the religious community.  People can afford to be godless because they do not need the church.

With all the safety nets we have put in place, we have seen the destruction of the inner city, the destruction of marriage, the destruction of our education system, the removal of our liberties, the destruction of Christianity, the amity of the sexes and for what?

For a brief time where we can feel better about ourselves before it all breaks apart into chaos and death.
