Intro
In more than a thousand posts between 2010 and 2020, Dalrock extensively analyzed modern Evangelical teachings on marriage and found them sorely wanting in Headship. According to Dalrock, both Complementarianism and Egalitarianism are implemented in churches in ways that functionally disadvantage men and husbands, and inverts the structure of marital authority. The intended purpose of Headship as an iconic glorification of Christ’s relationship to the church is thus crippled, and marriage is made to be more common than holy — no different from any secular union.
Now, more than six years after his departure, Dalrock’s expositions, fundamental viewpoints, and para-prophecies are just as relevant today as they were a decade ago, perhaps even more so. Christianity and Masculinity and Σ Frame have added many more valuable insights, models, observations, para-prophecies, and theories to the Christian Red Pill lore, but Dalrock’s work [Archive] continues to stand as the bedrock foundation of the Christian Red Pill regarding uncovering Church heresies and the carnal nature of nominally ‘Christian’ women and the ‘Christian’ men who worship them above God and who self-deceptively reframe this gynolatry as, “loving their wives” (c.f. Ephesians 5:25).
Here, I’ll summarize Dalrock’s theses on how Complementarianism has destroyed Christian men and the Church.
How Complementarianism Is Implemented to the Detriment of Christian Men
Dalrock argued that what churches claim to teach and what they actually practice often diverge, often aided and made more convincing by eisegetical sleights of doctrine, creating a system that undermines Biblical Headship while shielding women from accountability.
Dalrock explained how all this works in his extensive analysis of modern evangelical teachings on marriage. His essays describe the following patterns:
1. A Default Gynocentric Frame
- Feminism’s influence is incorporated into the church under the label of Complementarianism.
- Women’s autonomy and feelings are sovereign, while male authority is treated as optional at best, or abusive at worst.
2. The Primacy of Gender Egalitarianism in Marriage
- Dalrock described Complementarianism as “Egalitarian Marriage with a Veneer of Headship”, arguing that the converged church’s concept of Christian marriage is Egalitarian in practice, even in self-described Complementarian churches.
- Open-air egalitarians reject Headship outright, but Dalrock showed that many Complementarian churches achieve the same result by softening language, focusing on (her) feelings, and avoiding any enforcement of wifely accountability and submission, often by resorting to secular equality-based arguments backed up with distorted scriptural references.
The result is the same:
- Husbands bear responsibility without any corresponding authority.
- Wifely respect and submission to her husband (per Ephesians 5:24,33) is completely omitted in practice, and the very idea is relegated to an outdated, uncouth obscenity.
3. Servant Leadership
- Dalrock argued that “Servant Leadership” redefines Headship as endless service without authority.
- Dalrock called the “Servant Leadership” arrangement as, “99% servant, 1% leader” (for men).
- Real decision-making power is ‘mutual’ or defaults to the wife.
- The husband’s role is reduced to a “tiebreaker” at best or a perpetual servant at worst.
- Husbands are told they must “die to self” by catering to their wife’s emotional state, feelings, moods, and preferences (often summarized in the catchphrase, “If mama ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy”).
4. Mutual Submission
- So called “Mutual Submission” is applied asymmetrically — unbending law for men, unconditional grace for women.
- Churches habitually emphasize Ephesians 5’s call for husbands to love sacrificially but rarely enforce the parallel command for wives to “submit … in everything”.
- If a wife feels unhappy or “not led”, her rebellion is either excused somehow or blamed on the husband’s failure to be sufficiently loving and/or servant-like.
5. Pusillanimous P_ssy Pedestalizing
- Pastors and counselors routinely act as “White Knights”.
- In marital conflict resolution, marriage counseling, or divorce situations, pastors, leaders, and counselors routinely accept the wife’s narratives without question, meet with her privately without her husband present, and pressure the husband to repent of “bitterness”, “harshness”, or insufficiently considerate servanthood, with no regard to what the wife may have done to deserve such a response from the husband.
- This presumptive bias effectively supports female hypoagency and enables wives’ rebellion against their husbands.
Negative Impacts on Men and Husbands
Dalrock repeatedly documents how this implementation of Complementarianism / “Egalitarianism with a veneer of Headship” / Feminism harms men, maritally, socially, and spiritually:
1. Blame-Shifting and False Accountability
- Husbands are held solely responsible for marital problems, even when wives rebel, withhold sex, or initiate divorce.
- Dalrock notes that churches often enable “reviling wives” by framing the husband’s attempts at correction as unloving or abusive.
- Instead of encouragement and help, men face sermons filled with “Man Bashing” and routine shaming, long, fruitless, and shame-filled counseling sessions, and church disciplinary measures that ignore the wife’s role in marital conflicts.
2. Emasculation, Erosion of Male Authority, and the Loss of Frame
- Men are trained to supplicate to their wives rather than maintain a detached, internal locus of control, and lead by faith.
- Headship becomes a burden of constant performance to keep the wife happy, turning husbands into “hostage negotiators” for their own marriages and children.
- The overweening prioritization of female interests above all else, including faith based prerogatives, effectively erodes masculine confidence and Biblical leadership.
3. Encouragement of Female-Initiated Divorce and Family Destruction
- With church support (or at least non-resistance), wives can leave their marriages while retaining custody, financial advantages, and even the moral high ground, fully in alignment with the anti-Christian dictates of secular culture.
- Dalrock links the institutionalized enabling and permissiveness of women’s sins to higher divorce rates in Evangelical circles and the destruction of father-led homes.
- Overall, this has has a damning, enduring impact on families, children, and ultimately, the entire society.
4. Spiritual and Communal Demoralization
- Men feel disposable and “spiritually dead”. Many men have stopped attending church, have avoided marriage altogether, and/or have become cynical about faith.
- Churches fail to disciple men because they offer no real vision of masculine Headship, thereby driving men away, making the church more effeminate, and weakening the next generation’s faith.
- Dalrock ties this directly to the church leadership’s watering down scriptures to cater to women’s weaknesses and to the broader Evangelical decline (echoing Michael Spencer).
5. The Church is a Beta Factory
- Men who internalize the “Servant Leadership” model and all its gynocentric constraints and dictates become passive, resentful, or checked out, and thereby perpetuate the very problems the church hopes and claims to solve.
- As a result, the church has become known as a Beta Factory and a cesspool institution comprised of weak men and debased, ’empowered’, Feminist-lite wimminz.
6. Broader Ripple Effects
- Complementarian teachings contribute to a wider acceptance of sexual promiscuity, resulting in the “Mating Glut”*, delayed marriage, the divorce epidemic, plummeting fertility, and weakened or destroyed Christian marriages.
* The Mating Glut: A large percentage of women are having regular unreserved sexual relations with top class Chads, and are rejecting the men available to them for commitment / marriage, presumably because the men available to them are seen as inferior quality or because the Chads they want are not willing to commit, but actually because of women’s entitlement and vanity, AKA “Princess Mentality”.
Corollary to the Mating Glut: Women are unwilling to have children with a commitment-minded man within the confines of a committed relationship / marriage (because of his perceived low value), yet they are more willing to have children with Chads outside of marriage, thus contributing to the stellar rise in out-of-wedlock births.
Conclusions
In summary, Dalrock’s core insight was that modern church teachings on Complementarianism (and open Egalitarianism) do not truly describe Biblical Headship and wifely submission, but rather, a feminist-flavored Egalitarianism deceptively dressed up in scriptural language. The result is a system that protects women’s autonomy, feelings, and intersexual hypoagency, at the direct expense of men’s authority, dignity, and family leadership — ultimately harming husbands, fathers, and the church itself.
What Dalrock said a decade ago continues to reverberate throughout many shuddering (and shuttering) Evangelical churches across America.
Dalrock urged men to recognize this pattern and to respond, rather than accept it as “biblical”.
