That’s a common-albeit not often openly asked question that goes on in many circles. And by “Feminist” let’s try to specify-we’re talking the loudest, most strident voices out there in the public square. The ones who rail against “Patriarchy”, who have varying views of “sex positivity” and of course, their all-time favorite topic, rape.
In our time today, I think it fair to say that online venues such as Feministing, Jezebel, Feministe and the like, are the public face(s) of Feminism-and let’s face it, looks matter. They. Just. Do. And, from what I’ve personally seen of the faces behind the voices found at the aforementioned venues, well, I’ll just leave it at that.
Anyway, here’s what Ms. Walsh of Hooking Up Smart had to say about the matter, taken from the conversation involving Mr. McGinnis:
“Interesting take on feminism there. You may be right. I tend to think of feminists as women who learned at puberty that they did not appeal to men, which is where the anger comes from. I’ll agree that if the domineering males had fluttered around them, most of them would have been attracted. Obviously, all kinds of women relate to feminism – but I have noticed that a lot of the sex-positive feminists, especially those in the LGBT crowd, are not what I would call sexually appealing to men.”
Some have argued that Feminism is one big sh*t test, a cover for deep insecurities that allows considerably less than comely Women to have their time in the sun. We do know from simple observation that “body image” and the like effects Women much more than it does Men.
So, what do you think? Are Feminists on average, just downright Plaine Janer, at best, than other Women-or worse?
